Manisha Koirala discharged, to be treated in US

Actor Manisha Koirala, who was admitted to Jaslok Hospital on Wednesday night, was discharged from the hospital on Friday morning. Koirala is planning to pursue her treatment abroad, family sources said.

"We are planning to visit the U.S.. We have not selected the hospital yet. The family continues to be seeking to figure things out," said Mandira Koirala, the actor's sister-in-law.

The family, however, declined to touch upon Koirala's illness, adding that it was a personal matter.

On Thursday, Krishnakant Dasyam, spokesperson of Jaslok Hospital, had said that Koirala had undergone several medical tests and investigations but declined to touch upon her illness.

"Manisha was discharged from the hospital on Friday morning at 9am and she or he is doing fine," Dasyam said.

The actor was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after she reportedly fell unconscious. Sources on the hospital said that Koirala was being treated by Dr Suresh Advani, director of medical oncology on the hospital.

Sources told HT that Koirala's family had obtained emergency US visas for his or her travel and are expected to travel on Saturday.

Manisha, who hails from a prominent political family in Nepal, has worked in numerous Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam movies.

She was last seen on the opening ceremony of the 14th Mumbai Film Festival and the Lifetime of Pi premiere.

Wanted my year to finish with something totally bizarre like Talaash: Kareena Kapoor

From her debut with the 2000 film Refugee to her latest release Talaash, Kareena Kapoor has come some distance in her decade-long career. The actress says she picks other kinds of roles as she prefers taking risks in terms of choosing films. Be it a masala film like
Bodyguard or a women-centric movie like Heroine, Kareena has all of it in her kitty. The 32-year-old Bollywood A-lister says it's her duty as an actress to dole out plenty of films for her fans.

"It is the obligation of an actor to check out and pick up different roles, be just a little brave concerning the whole thing. Sometimes films will work and infrequently they will not. It's fun taking risks. I SIMPLY CANNOT just keep looking pretty and doing a song-and-dance film," Kareena told PTI in an interview.

The actress said people had asked her to not play Riana Briganza in Shakun Batra's Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu earlier this year, because the film was slightly unconventional.

"When I USED TO BE doing Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, everyone said it's slightly non-commercial, for the reason that boy doesn't get the lady after all. I only did the film because people were saying that. I told Shakun that if you happen to change the tip of this movie, I AM NOT doing it. That was me. I WISHED to do Riana Briganza and wanted my year to finish with something totally bizarre like Talaash. I'm proud of both," said Kareena.

This year have been quite colourful for Kareena. While in Aamir Khan starrer Talaash she played the spirit of a prostitute, Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine had her star as a Bollywood actress. Kareena also turned out as an ISI agent in Agent Vinod and can be next seen in a item number in Dabangg 2.

"I always attempt to balance the mass-oriented films with the opposite kinds. My fans like to see me in commercial stuff as well, for that there's the article song Fevicol Se that I'VE done for Dabangg 2.

"It's nice to do a job like Rosie in Talaash, who's so sensitive, after which something like this song. People should see that i'm seeking to do various things and never just confidently doing my very own thing or repeating the same," she said.

Talaash opened to postive reviews on November 30 and Kareena's performance have been lauded. The actress said this a fair sign for the industry.

"People have liked the film as a complete and my role was appreciated. It roughly gives hope and faith to actors that there's space for good cinema and a fair story."

The film is a suspense thriller, which sees Aamir playing the role of an inspector investigating the death of an actor, while Kareena's character helps him out.

"Aamir has so much to do with my decision to try this film, every actress desires to work with him. But that aside, after I heard the part they were offering me, it more or less blew me away," she said.

Kareena said the film's success also shows that an actress' marital status doesn't really affect her career.

"I'm happy that Talaash has done well, as it shows that it really doesn't matter whether you're married or not, it is all about being a part of an excellent film."

Having tied the knot with Saif Ali Khan in October after a five-year relationship with the actor, Kareena said her life hasn't changed much post-marriage.

"I don't understand why this kind of big deal is being made about my marriage. I married the person that I REALLY LIKE and i'm happier. Life really hasn't changed much."

Akshay-Ashvini to provide a Punjabi comedy

A while ago we had told you that Akshay Kumar and Ashvini Yardi were co-producing a Marathi film titled 72 Miles - Ek Pravas under their banner Grazing Goat Pictures.

Now the dynamic duo have announced their plans to provide a Punjabi comedy titled Paaji In Trouble.

The film will however not star Akshay Kumar and he'll be only producing the film. Akshay felt that during the previous couple of years the marketplace for Punjabi cinema has grown by leaps and limits and hence it was an apt time to launch a movie in his mother-tongue.

The film is a whole entertainer as a way to depict the wonderful thing about Punjab like never before.

After no show at premiere, now Kareena Kapoor misses Talaash success bash

Kareena Kapoor was conspicuous by her absence on the premiere of Talaash on 29th December at PVR Juhu. The actress also missed the success party of Talaash thrown by Aamir Khan. "Aamir threw an impromptu party at his residence to celebrate the successful opening of his film. While the
entire cast and crew were present, Kareena was over again absent from the party. Bebo was scheduled to return but didn't take place. Nobody knows why," a source told Mumbai Mirror.

"Following Thursday night's special show, everyone from the unit celebrated at a Bandra five star till 8 within the morning. Friday evening onwards, members of the unit started arriving at Aamir's house to hope him at the positive response that the film was getting. That's when Aamir decided to have an impromptu party," a crew member told the tabloid.

Kareena didn't occur on the premiere as she was unwell and had prior commitment with Salman Khan on Bigg Boss season 6. "She had gone to Delhi for the promotions of Talaash and after two hectic days, she returned with the forged on Thursday morning. She had high fever and a throat infection even then, so she rested for a couple of hours. But as she had committed to a channel for her appearance on a reality show to launch her item song Fevicol Se from Dabangg 2, she needed to leave for Lonavala that very same evening," a source on the subject of Kareena told HT Cafe.

"Kareena is a certified so she decided to stay to her commitment to Bigg Boss, which might has been tough to reschedule. Skipping the premiere was your best option. However, she did apologise to the producers Aamir and Farhan (Akhtar) who were fine together with her decision," added the source.

SRK gets mobbed at Marrakech Film Festival!

The crowd at the opening day of the 12th International Film Festival of Marrakech could have been disappointed at not attending to see Shah Rukh Khan, but at the second day, the star didn’t disappoint them. Before entering the venue, SRK walked past the barricade, shaking hands along with his fans, signing autographs and waving out. At one point, when some excited fans tried to grip his coat, the safety needed to step in and pull him back. On being asked the way it felt to have one of these fan following in Morocco, he said, “It’s the affection. You'll only enjoy it.”

Celebrating Indian cinema
On day two, the festival paid tribute to Indian cinema. The Indian contingent, led by Amitabh Bachchan, included Sharmila Tagore, Hrithik Roshan, Arjun Rampal, Sridevi with husband Boney Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap with wife Kalki Koechlin, Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, among others. The evening concluded with the screening of late filmmaker Yash Chopra’s last directorial, Jab Tak hain Jaan.

‘Kareena not converted’, confirms mom-in-law
Sharmila Tagore put the entire speculations to rest on whether Kareena converted to Islam for her marriage to Saif Ali Khan. “Kareena
hasn’t converted. Saif put it rightly – it’s love and bonding between two people,” said Tagore, who's one of the crucial nine jury members on the festival.

Monica Bellucci on Devdas
Italian actor Monica Bellucci — a distinct guest on the festival — was on the event to honour Indian cinema. The actor is surprisingly familiar with Indian cinema, and said that she doesn’t rule out the potential of doing an Indian film. “The first Hindi film I saw was Devdas (the Shah Rukh Khan one, we’re guessing),” said the actor, adding, “I wonder how Indian actors are so popular in every thing of the sector. The group goes crazy wherever they go,” she said.

Ask her if she is planning to travel to India, and he or she says, “I’ve never been to India, but I'LL BE there soon.” The author is on the Marrakech Film Festival by invitation.

Playing Milkha Singh was definitely a challenge: Farhan Akhtar

Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar says playing sprinter Milkha Singh in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag have been a thrilling challenge. "It was definitely a challenge, nevertheless it was a challenge that was an excessively exciting one to accept," the 38-year-old said here in an interview. The biopic is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

Asked if he needed to learn Punjabi for his character, Farhan said: "In bits and pieces. I mainly focussed on dialogues and sure improvisations within scenes. But in fact I had to, because there's a very distinct Punjabi flavour to the entire film."

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag also features Sonam Kapoor and is slated to release on July 12.

Aamir Khan's Talaash earns Rs. 47.1 cr within the opening weekend

After garnering rave reviews from film critics, Reema Kagti's Talaash has done great business over the weekend. The crime-thriller, starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji, has earned Rs. 47.1 crore within the first three days.

"Witnessed phenomenal growth over the weekend. The film has performed exceptionally well at multiplexes [mind-blowing in certain circuits] and ranged from good to average at single screens, dependent on the centre/circuit. The mass dominated centres also witnessed ample growth on Sunday. Collected approx Rs. 47.1 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup: Fri 13.5 cr, Sat 15.5 cr, Sun 18.1 cr," trade analyst Taran Adarsh reported.

The release on a non-festive weekend hasn't stopped Aamir fans from buying the film's tickets.

After Talaash grossed Rs. 13.5 crore on its opening day, Aamir Khan threw an impromptu bash for the forged and crew on Friday night.

Isha Sharvani is back and sets the ramp a hearth

Isha Sharvani, who needed to back out of the finals of ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’ as a result of her elbow injury despite her sure shot probabilities of winning, is back and the way!! The lady is fitter than ever and within the better of her spirits. She looked extremely beautiful and entire of life as she walked the ramp for designer James Ferreira at the opening day of the second one edition of India Resort Fashion Week in Candolim, Goa. Isha looked completely awe-inspiring in a black halter neck gown with a red stole. She also showed her graceful dance moves in a red swim suit which she teamed with a protracted chiffon jacket.

James Ferreira showcased an entire resort collection that was a mixture of swimsuits, sarongs and kaftans at India Resort Fashion Week 2012. The designer used satin and viscose to create an inexpensive line.

Talking about her fight along with her injury and her comeback, Isha Sharvani said: “I was under intense rehabilitation for a very long time as a result of that dislocated elbow, I’m still not fully recovered, and there are things I'LL do this I can’t appear to accomplish that easily now.”

The four-day long IRFW has a strong line-up of designers and Indian and international disc jockeys. Also noted at the ramp was Shazahn Padamsee who walked for Sushma Patel at India Resort Fashion Week 2012.

I'M in a contented space, wish Kareena all of the best: Shahid Kapoor

It took Shahid Kapoor two years to realize that slow and steady doesn’t always win the race, and about nine months to grasp that not working is an unhealthy habit.

He’d always been aware that visibility is synonymous with an actor’s life, but Shahid has a deeper understanding of the concept that now. So, wiser than before, he's back at the sets after nine months, shooting for Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Phata Poster Nikla Hero.

“It looks like I USED TO BE on a longer vacation and now I'M back to school,” he says. With three big films in hand — Prabhudheva’s Namak, Bejoy Nambiar’s next and Phata Poster…, the 31-year-old actor is back on his feet. Late at night, at the sets of Santoshi’s film, Shahid holds back nothing in an exclusive interview with HT Café.

You’ve been missed. Where did you disappear after Mausam?
It wasn’t a voluntary decision. But yes, there has been a time after I will need to have been doing more work, but I didn’t. So I HAVE TO recover that lost time now. And that i guess everything has a reason. My dad’s film Mausam took a year and a half to finish, and that started the slow-down. Technically, I lost two years. Everybody knew or presumed that I WOULDN'T take in any work till Mausam was finished. The one film I signed in between was Teri Meri Kahani.

And then?
I finished Teri Meri Kahani and was about to start out Maneesh Sharma’s film, when he developed a slipped disc. A CHAIN of events
unfortunately followed that and caused further delays. I understand there have been technical problems but, honestly, I couldn’t push it any longer as I already had three other films lined up. I wasn’t happy opting out of Maneesh’s film. But I’ve always believed that whatever you get is for your destiny and what you don’t get isn’t speculated to be. Maneesh and that i parted amicably. Following this, I didn’t shoot for nine months which was very surprising because something like this hasn't ever happened before with me.

It’s been five years since your big film Jab We Met released. People still consider that as your best shot…
I know. It’s an odd feeling to appear back. However, it wasn’t considered a large film then. It was made by a brand new director; the lead pair of Kareena and that i was not considered hot as our jodi hadn’t worked in earlier films; and most importantly, the film was released in a period that the trade believes is inauspicious — two weeks after Dushhera and two weeks before Diwali. This era is looked upon because the weakest and worst time to release a movie. And two big movies, Om Shanti Om and Saawariya (both 2007), were releasing around that point. Fortunately, our film was widely appreciated. I ASSUME every film has its own destiny.

So far you haven’t spoken about what went wrong with Mausam.
The proven fact that we had with reference to two months to edit the film which was revamped a period of 2 years, and the truth that the film itself got hugely delayed impacted the product. Had there been slightly more time, we might have gotten more perspective and made corrections. It was numerous pressure on dad who was making his first film. There has been pressure on all of us, including Supriya aunty (Shahid’s stepmother Supriya Pathak), and my kid brothers. Everyone was deeply excited by the film. I USED TO BE with the family throughout and that i needed to be their mental strength. I just couldn’t allow them to down emotionally.

Do you regret that phase a little?
I usually don't regret anything in life, but in hindsight, I wouldn’t need to do this again. I ACTUALLY don’t wish to be in that situation again.

‘I am not arrogant, but lovingly detached!’

We’ve heard you’ve cancelled your New Year’s Eve plans.
I am really enthusiastic about my work now and there’s a captivating line-up for next year. So yes, I'LL BE working round-the-clock. There’s no New Year’s Eve or birthday break. I'VE taken it on myself to ensure that I'VE essentially the most of myself and just keep working.

How did you spend the last nine months?
I was reading scripts, meeting and interacting with people. I'VE already heard about six scripts and the 3 films I'M doing now are due to the this. Fortunately, I'M working with people I WISHED to work with. With these movies, I'M stepping into a special space too. Thankfully I had the time to line up my priorities. Raj Kumar Santoshi’s film is an out-and-out entertainer, so is Prabhudheva’s Namak, that is complete masala fare. After which there's Bejoy Nambiar’s film that is of a dark, edgy kind. And there’s yet one more that i'm not speculated to discuss now.

I have decided one thing, though. I’ve made a promise to myself that each year I CAN do three films and feature two releases — minimum. People have told me that i'm too slow, that I do only a few films, and that at this age and stage, I shouldn’t be doing this.

You and Kareena became a success pair after Jab We Met (2007), after which the 2 of you split up. But have you had a suggestion of a movie with Kareena since then?
Nobody within the last five years has come to me with a proposal to work with Kareena. I had never said no to working together with her ever before, and why should or not it's any different now? I'D say Jab We Met was Kareena’s finest performance to this point. She’s one of the crucial finest actresses we now have today. People still remember her as Geet.

Was it after Jab We Met that you simply fell right into a slow phase? Did the get a divorce with Kareena affect you?
No, yaar. Such a lot of things happen, including death, but you don’t stop working as a result of that during. fact I did Kaminey (2009), Dil Bole Hadippa! (2009) and other films after the get a divorce. But I did only a few films by choice. I had put all my eggs in a single basket. And a few of the movies that I did weren't good choices; that’s how I MUST look back now. I NEED TO be pragmatic and honest. So whilst you put these kinds of things together, it’s not the most efficient scenario and i'm trying to correct that.

Certain people within the industry believe you exude one of those arrogance.
I was in my very own world and keep to myself all of the time, so there can have been a perception about my reserved demeanour that was misconstrued as arrogance. But if people interact with you, then they know the true you.

So how did you control the damage?
People can have found it difficult to approach me and that i realised it and feature worked on it. I WAS socially shy. Now I'VE become a social animal. I'M GOING out, meet and have interaction with people. I made an effort and i'm really enjoying that phase now. Beyond that, I WILL NOT change who I'M. I'M a Piscean, and so they have a lovingly detached attitude towards life.

Do the reports of your link-ups upset or amuse you?
Initially I USED TO BE shocked to read them, but gradually I got used to it, so I don’t take it seriously. Sometimes I BELIEVE it’s excessive, it makes me uncomfortable. I SUPPOSE it’s going to maintain happening till I AM GETTING married. Anyway, I don’t care about it, so it doesn’t matter.

Are you single now?
I am not saying anything. Tomorrow after I am walking around with someone or dining with someone, someone will click an image and it’ll become a headline. So IT'S NOT THAT I AM going there in any respect. I say one thing, and there’s an avalanche of gossip around it. I'M married to my work. That’s what heroines say, right? But yes, I'M single and i've been single for the last two years.

So is love a no-no for the brand new Shahid?
There’s such a lot happening in my life now that a relationship is usually a huge baggage for me unless it’s with the correct one that brings out the fitting side of me. If I LOCATE someone who makes me feel amazing and who I can’t stop thinking about, I WILL BE ABLE TO run after her and check out my best to woo her. Being in love is gorgeous. You simply must find someone who can understand you and who you'll give time and importance.

How important is money for you?
It is very important to be secure, but I always emphasise relationships. I'VE learnt this over a time period. Four years ago, perhaps, I wouldn’t have said this.

On Kareena Kapoor
In hindsight, were you too young and immature to deal with your relationship along with your former girlfriend Kareena?
Absolutely not! I USED TO BE 16 once I had my first relationship and it lasted for 2 and a half years. If you find yourself seeing somebody, then obviously it’s a commitment. And in the event you don’t wish to commit, then don’t be in a relationship. Every relationship deserves a definite credibility and respectability. For me, it’s always been like that. If I'VE fallen for someone, it’s been a protracted time.

As for what went wrong between me and Kareena, I don’t need to touch upon it. Everything happens for a reason; I'M in a cheerful space and want her all of the best.

When I’d interviewed her earlier, Kareena Kapoor had said she’d love to act in Jab We Met 2…
The ball lies in Imtiaz’s court. It'd be interesting to revisit Jab We Met, but I don’t know if I WILL play Aditya Kashayp as I had played him within the original. Nonetheless, it’s a perfect film, so why not? Everyone related to that film has gained tremendously. Vishal Bharadwaj cast me in Kaminey because he liked me in Jab We Met. He felt that even supposing I USED TO BE mostly quiet within the film, I USED TO BE still in my character. That was an enormous compliment.

On Priyanka Chopra
Was your relationship with Priyanka Chopra a case of affection at the rebound?
Ever since my public break-up (read Kareena), I HAVEN'T spoken about my relationship status. That’s the utmost I WILL say. And because I'VE said I USED TO BE single for the last two years, how could I'VE BEEN seeing anyone?

looking guy and the best actor within the industry, he still works harder and tries to get well at his work. It’s amazing! He's the one actor who called me up after watching my first film, Isqh Vishk (2003). I USED TO BE damn happy that celebrity Hrithik Roshan called me on my phone. I flaunted it around. I respect him a lot.

5 Pankaj Kapur’s
conviction. He might have been an overly rich man, but he chose a center class life through his work which states sense and sensibility. Sometimes he tells me, ‘Beta I'VE money within the bank for just one year, but I CAN still not absorb work I don’t like’. He stands by his beliefs fiercely.

Saif Ali Khan plans to throw party for Kareena for Talaash success!

Kareena Kapoor is getting rave reviews for her performance in Reema Kagti's Talaash, and husband Saif Ali Khan is planning to throw a small party to celebrate the actress' success. "Saif remains to be in Lucknow shooting for his film. He's very excited as he have been receiving messages from our friends and family about my performance in Talaash," Kareena told IANS.

"He was happy concerning the proven fact that that is my first big film after our wedding and we now have broken the norm to prove that even married women can get the box office going.

"Saif and that i are quite thrilled about this and Saif is planning for a small party with family and friends once he's back. He desires to have a small get together, now allow us to see how things fall in place," she added. Kareena and Saif exchanged wedding vows last month in an intimate ceremony.

A decade after Chameli, Kareena again plays the role of a prostitute in Talaash. The actress is delighted that her performance within the new film was accepted well by the audience.

"It's quite ironic that I did Chameli after I was 22 and that i did Talaash once I am 32. So exactly after a decade I played a prostitute's role and both my roles were accepted well by the audience," Kareena said.

"It is straightforward to do song and dance, though this can be a a part of me and my USP, but I THINK really blessed to play something like this on screen," she added.

Sanjay Dutt spotted eating tobacco at a cancer event!

Actor Sanjay Dutt found himself in an ironical tangle when he was photographed chewing tobacco at an event for cancer prevention.

The 53-year old actor was on-stage along with his wife and sisters on the Mumbai event organised by Nargis Dutt Memorial Trust, within the memory of his late mother, Nargis Dutt, who died of cancer. Shutterbugs went right into a tizzy as they noticed him opening what looked like a satchel of Gutka or paan masala and chewing the contents several times throughout the event.

Soat the photos (left) found their way online and and Twitterati went agog with comments on the irony. A tweet by @mihirfadnavis read: “Munnabhai bane ironic,” @Against Pseudos posted, “Bollywood idiots!!” and @DeepXP wrote: “Haha Poor Sanjay Dutt.”
Dutt refused to comment, when asked in regards to the faux pas later.

Partygoers are always in search of that next dance number and Bollywood films seldom disappoint, since every release has a few such tracks on their albums. Now, the songs from Ramesh Taurani’s next action-thriller, Race 2, appear to have created a huge buzz among dance music lovers to boot. When the brand new single from the film, ‘There’s a celebration on my mind’, was released, little did Taurani know that it'd be so popular.

“Ever since we released the song earlier last week, we now have been getting calls and e-mails from DJs across the world, who wish to remix it. Even Pritam was approached for a similar. For now, we haven’t decided whom to select,” says Taurani.

DJs from clubs in Canada, USA, London, Dubai and India are at the list. “DJ Suketu has always remixed songs from my movies and he's keen to remix the song too. From the calls we’ve got so far, we now have chosen four DJs and can announce the name of the only whose remix might be utilized in the music CD,” says Taurani.

Music director Pritam will decide which DJ to finally select, adds Taurani. “I can be fascinated by the verdict too but after all he knows best,” he says. Though Taurani refuses to show the names of the shortlisted DJs, an insider says, “The New York-based DJ Jay Dabhi was finalised for the remix.”

The song was shot on a beach in Turkey. “It happens at a celebration to celebrate John Abraham’s character’s acquisition of many casinos. We flew in 70 dancers from Russia, since Turkey had none,” says the creative producer of the film, Jay Shewakramani.

Abhishek Bachchan in Mere Apne remake?

Producer Sunil Bohra, who recently acquired the remake rights to the 1971 film Mere Apne, is searching for the best cast. “We have shortlisted a couple of names and plan to speak to the actors soon. The jobs of Vinod Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha must be locked first followed by the legendary Meena Kumari’s role,” says Bohra.

Like many other filmmakers who change the plots of original films for his or her remakes, Bohra too will installed his bit within the original story.

“It may be set in today’s times in UP. For Meenaji’s role we can cast a senior actor who will suit the role. And for either Vinod’s or Shatrughan’s roles, I WOULD LIKE to cast Abhishek Bachchan. Both the jobs are powerful and feature an edge. I'VE approached him and hopefully next week we will be able to have a gathering to speak about the project.”
