I didn’t want any competition: Aamir Khan

By Hindustan Times

Aamir Khan have been on a roll publicising his debut TV show, Satyamev Jayate, that launches on May 6. As a part of the promotion, the star has shot a scene for the preferred Star Plus serial Diya Aur Baati Hum (DABH) on Monday.

“DABH is a successful show and i've seen parts of it. My mother watches it regularly, so does Kiran (wife Kiran Rao) that's how I finally end up watching it now and then too,” says the actor, who last appeared on TV for filmmaker Vipul Shah’s show whose title he can’t recall. “That was 10 years ago.”

His show, whose concept remains to be a secret, will go on air at 11 am on Sunday. Aamir admits he's nervous: “I took the Sunday slot only because I didn’t want any competition from other primetime TV shows. I don’t watch much TV, I’m more into books, but I loved Takeshi’s Castle; Javed’s (Jafri) commentary was hilarious.”

Meanwhile, there are many speculations about his own show making the rounds. Apparently the primary episode touches at the issue of female infanticide and another one revolves around a undeniable Mr Patel who works towards improving the lives of senior citizens. Prod him at the buzz and Aamir smiles non-commitally, neither denying nor confirming anything. All he's going to say is, “I want people to observe the show and experience it first hand. It's about real people living in India...Their stories.”

Other than the eight Star channels, Satyamev Jayate may also air on Doordarshan as Aamir wants the show to achieve the remotest corners of the country.

‘Was overwhelmed by Ram Lakhan’
Talking about his recent sojourn in Patna where he dashed off to wait the marriage of the son of rickshaw driver, Ram Lakhan whom he befriended through the promotion of three Idiots in 2009, Aamir says, “Ram Lakhan came to Mumbai to ask me for the marriage. He travelled for over 30 hours within the general compartment of a train and went back the similar way. I USED TO BE overwhelmed, I needed to find time for the function”
