The Capital love affair!

By Hindustan Times

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who has shot major portions of movies like Socha Na Tha, Love Aaj Kal and Rockstar in Delhi, accepts that he's hugely interested in the multi-cultural Capital. However the film that he enjoyed shooting essentially the most in Delhi was Rockstar. “I loved shooting scenes of Sadda Haq at North campus. The sensation of going back to my college (Hindu College) was extremely nostalgic. The energy of the scholars was palpable and added a definite depth to the song,” he said recently when he was within the city for Osian’s Cine Fan film festival.

Ali explored town to the hilt as he shot scenes with actors Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri at North Campus, Hauz Khas, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Old Delhi for Rockstar. “From the charm of gallis in Old Delhi to the department stores in New Delhi, the Metro and the historical monuments, Delhi has numerous contradictions that make it an overly exciting place to shoot,” said Ali.

Ali still tries to travel by bus within the city as he used to during college days and explore its true culture. “I love to visit the Old fort, Qutab Minar and Hazrat Nizammudin,” he said. “Roaming across the streets of Chandni Chowk to dig into piping hot Bedmi Pooris and Subzi, Kachori or Paranthas from the local eateries is a must when I’m in town,” he added.

Mumbai or Delhi?
Even though Ali went to Mumbai to pursue his career, he still loves to tell stories from Delhi. “I went where the industry is. However the stories that I tell are from Delhi,” he said. “Technology has greatly changed the sport within the previous few years. You not must be in Mumbai to approach filmmakers, show your portfolio or script. It’s all become web-based,” he added.

On North Campus
I loved shooting for Sadda Haq at North campus. The sensation of going back to my college (Hindu) was extremely nostalgic On Delhi food I prefer the vegetarian food of old Delhi to the kebabs. Also, Pooris and Subzi, Kachori or Paranthas are a must
