In Sanjay Gupta’s just-launched Shootout At Wadala, John Abraham plays gangster Manohar Arjuna Surve, better referred to as Manya. Tusshar plays his trusted lieutenant Sheikh Munir from the Dharavi slums. “They met in jail and once out, they took on Dawood Ibrahim, thus cementing their place within the Mumbai underworld. They carried off several successful heists till Manya was gunned down by the police,” explains Tusshar.
Contrary to rumours, the actor insists that the film is a prequel and never a sequel to Sanjay’s earlier film, Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007). “It revolves across the first ever police encounter in Mumbai that happened in 1982 — almost a decade before the Lokhandwala shootout,” he explains.
Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai (2010) revolved across the Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim rivalry. Now, the impending Shootout At Wadala and the sequel to Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai may even have references to Dawood. Tusshar smiles, “It’s a coincidence, but Dawood have to be happy.”
