Akshay gears up for gangster mode!

By Hindustan Times

He has just won audiences over together with his amusing role within the comic caper, Housefull 2, but Akshay Kumar is about for a whole makeover. The actor is about don a sombre avatar, albeit strictly on silver screen. In Milan Luthria’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, Akshay will play a “quiet, yet brooding” don. The actor’s character sketch will take cues from Al Pacino within the Godfather (1972) and Amitabh Bachchan’s outings in Don (1978) and Trishul (1978).

“I’ve always been very impressed with Pacino within the Godfather and Mr Bachchan in Don and Trishul. And because Akshay’s character in my film is similar, I’m the 2 iconic actors as initial reference points,” says Luthria, adding he hasn’t taken a last call at the character sketch or Akshay’s look as of now. Luthria, however, is bound of 1 thing: “In the film, Akshay’s character speaks very little, so that you will see a large number of what I call silent power.”

In the sequel to the 2010 hit, Akshay will play an underworld don, Shoaib (supposedly character in keeping with Dawood Ibrahim), and Sonakshi Sinha will feature as an upcoming heroine, Yasmin (believed to be modelled around yesteryear actor and Dawood’s alleged lover Mandakini), who falls in love with Shoaib.

“The film will show how gangsters was once keen on Hindi film actresses, however the story may be coloured with numerous fiction,” says The Dirty Picture director, adding there won’t be any wet white sari scene with Sonakshi.“Just because I made The Dirty Picture, doesn’t mean I start thinking ‘dirty’ in all my films,” laughs Luthria. “Yes, there'll be some sensuous sequences however it will all be done in a tasteful and discerning manner.”
