After actor Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan tasted success with Hindi remakes of movies like Singham (2011) and Bodyguard (2011) respectively, Akshay Kumar too looks to be seeking inspiration from the south. After Rowdy Rathore, that's said to be a Hindi adaptation of Telegu film Vikramarkudu (2006), the actor is about to supply and act within the Hindi remake of Priyadarshan’s Malayalam film, The Arab, The Camel, and P Madhavan Nair (2011).
“Akshay is producing the Hindi remake of the film and can play the lead,” says Priyadarshan, who's directing the film. The Arab, The Camel, and P Madhavan Nair is a comedy. Priyadarshan apparently couldn’t get a hold of the correct Hindi title. “My Hindi may be very bad, so the writers will recall to mind the title. But it’s a hilarious movie,” he says.
The National Award-winning director’s next offering Tezz, starring actors Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Zayed Khan and Kangana Ranaut is his first action thriller. “Planning something like this implies the precise budget with right subject. When everything came in place, I did it,” says the director who was presented the Padma Shri this year.
‘I am against item songs’
Priyadarshan doesn’t approve of the thing song Laila…, featuring actor Mallika Sherawat in his upcoming film, Tezz. The director says producer Ratan Jain of Venus Music forced its inclusion on the last moment. He says, “I am against item songs. Even though included, it's going to go along with the film.” Priyadarshan refused to shoot the music video too. “Let people decide whether the song is relevant to the storyline or not.”
But if he's against item songs, what persuaded him to have one in Kamal Dhamal Malamaal? He says, “That’s the turning point of the film. It’s not only the article song. There are numerous things happening during that song.”
