Chitrangada uses memories of sexual harassment in film

By Hindustan Times

A few days ago, actor Chitrangada Singh finished shooting the climax sequence of Sudhir Mishra’s upcoming movie. Tentatively titled Inkaar, the film, also starring Arjun Rampal, revolves around sexual harassment at work places. And for her role, Chitrangada has taken cues from a few of her own personal experiences.

“Since I spent most of my growing years in Delhi and Meerut, I'VE had my share of such experiences; a pair were really bad ones too,” says Chitrangada, adding that almost all Indian women, especially those living in north India, have faced sexual harassment in the course of time of their lives.

“And I'VE mentioned north India because individuals are aware that that side of the rustic is just a little aggressive by nature,” she adds.

As a part of her preparation, the Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003) actor also frolicked chatting with a couple of professionals who function in corporate set-ups, so she could understand the intricacies of sexual harassment cases and the way women maintain returning to the similar workplace after an incident.

“I got involved with an HR head to realize the severity of such cases, and the way harsh they're on someone who have been proven guilty,” says the actor, adding that many ladies suffer in silence and don’t pop out within the open about such cases as a result of loss of evidence.

“I desired to know what girls do in these situations and the way the legal system handles this matter. Sometimes, justice isn’t imparted to ladies because they decide to keep quiet. Probably, they suspect their words will open a can of worms,” she says.

Meanwhile, some reports recently claimed that the actor could be seen doing intimate scenes with co-star Arjun within the movie. But Chitrangada denies this. She says, “I don’t think there are any ‘steamy’ scenes within the film. They've been shot very realistically.”
