I’m open to Hindi films: Julia Roberts

By Hindustan Times

Julia Roberts, who shot Eat Pray Love in Delhi and Pataudi, says her visit to India was “a spiritually enlightening experience.” Now she's going to be seen in Indian director Tarsem Singh’s Hollywood fairy tale, Mirror Mirror, playing the villain. “I am open to doing an all-out Indian film if the project interests me,” she says. “Right now, with kids and family taking over most of my time, the artistic appeal of a project holds probably the most importance for me. You simply need to ensure that my accent won’t be a problem.”

The actor says she feels a connection to India. Of her last visit she recalls, “Being in India, I learnt such a lot about myself, which prompted me to adopt Hinduism. I also went to the holy city of Haridwar. The rustic is spiritually healing. I won’t have the ability to visit for the Mirror Mirror promotions this time but hope to come soon sometime within the future.”

About her dark character in Tarsem’s adaptation of the Brothers Grimm story of Snow White she says, “We discussed Snow White for hours because I said yes to the film. Tarsem’s movies are so visual. His fearlessness brought an improbable sense of integrity to the film. The Grimm story is some pages long and the Disney film, which has nothing to do with our movie, allows just for limited interpretations of the characters. Tarsem tells the tale on a miles larger level. He's a lovable genius.”

Julia admits probably the most reasons she signed the film was to wear its lavish costumes, which she describes as “architectural, but not cosy”. She says, “My role was fun because there aren’t any real rules of reality that apply to my character. However our film is zany and family oriented. I AM HOPING the vibrant costumes, grand sets and universal themes of independence and feminine empowerment attract the audience.”

Besides Mirror Mirror, Julia is worked up about working with Meryl Streep in August: Osage County. She says, “It’s exciting. I can’t wait. It’s like a dream come true to work together with her. After that I even have The standard Heart, that is in line with an try to raise HIV/AIDS awareness. I can’t wait to start out work on that too.”
