Though the art of handmade movie posters is vanishing and they're being replaced by their printed versions, they're still much well known by many Bollywood fans and tourists. “Foreigners love these movie posters. They're desirous about the intense colours and postures,” says Ranjit Singh of Bollywood Posters. Take a look at some places within the city where you should purchase cinema posters.

Among the various shops selling film posters in Hauz Khas Village, this store is among the hottest. It only keeps original Bollywood posters, which it has sourced from movie halls and collectors. One of the original posters listed here are decades old. Though a few of the posters listed below are the machine printed ones, the shop also has a fair number of hand-painted posters to boot. “The older movie posters come for Rs. 1,000 and the brand new ones can be bought for Rs. 500. One of the vital hot selling posters listed here are of flicks similar to Sholay, Mughal E Azam, and, Mother India. Not just this, we also keep original film cards that you simply get throughout the movie halls,” says Balkishan of Indian Popular Art.

Cinema Posters

They have vintage film posters, both from Bollywood and Hollywood. The gathering of originals listed below are greater than 35 years old. Here, the bottom price of the posters starts at Rs. 500 for a Bollywood film. The rates also rely upon the recognition of the movie. Additionally they have a large choice of vintage posters which might be dearer (Rs 3,000 onwards). One of the hottest posters include that of Charlie Chaplin and James Bond. Apart from film posters, this shop also sells books, paintings and maps. They sell printed posters that start from a value range of Rs. 500 and goes as much as Rs. 3,000, depending upat the work and the actors on the posters. “The hottest sellers are movie posters with Amitabh Bachchan, Guru Dutt and Raj Kapoor,” says Deepak Jain of the shop. In addition they have a set of hand-painted show cards and picture cards (Rs 2,000 onwards).

Bollywood posters

Their USP is custom made hand-painted posters. “We make Bollywood style colourful posters and portraits,” says Vijay Kumar, who runs the business. They take around two weeks to deliver the general product. They make three varieties of sizes of posters, from two feet to 6 feet, which might be priced between Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 35,000. The preferred poster this is that of the film, Om Shanti Om, as people can get their faces installed the bodies of actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.

For folks who don’t have the time to visit the market, there's also an internet portal, from which, you should purchase a wide variety of Bollywood film posters. “We are attempting to restore the old art of hand-painted Bollywood posters. We're working with the artists who make Bollywood movie posters and billboards. These artists paint vintage posters, which can be basically hand-painted replicas,”says Hinesh Jethwani, the landlord of the location. “We also offer memorabilia. In this, we sell original vintage posters, which we've sourced from collectors and picture halls that experience closed down. The gathering starts from the era of silent movies. The posters can be found from Rs. 1,000 onwards. There can't be a worth fixed on original vintage posters,” he adds.
