Mumbai, April 13 -- Last week, when Housefull 2 hit theatres, film critics lashed out, comparing the comedy to be the "cinematic equivalent of junk food" and "one for four-year olds". But that did not stop Sajid Khan's comic caper from raking within the moolah.
The film brought in R50 crore within just four days of its release. Also, it garnered the second one best opening day collections of 2012 after Agneepath. "Harsh film reviews are an element and parcel of the job. On the end of the day, nobody loves a specific film in its entirety. Whether it's Titanic, The Godfather, Avatar or 3 Idiots, a movie is usually the results of someone's belief system. But I BELIEVE that everything boils all the way down to the way it fares on the box office. Success at box office is a test of whether a movie was accepted or not," says Sajid.
Housefull 2's first four days' collections have exceeded all the earnings brought in by Sajid's own Heyy Babyy (2007). The film has also outdone its 2010 prequel Housefull's first week exploits of R47 crore. "I'VE always maintained that I DO NOT give a damn about critics. The collections are a large slap on their faces. For me, critics have zero value. I BELIEVE that just a one who buys a ticket to observe my film has the precise to pass judgement on it: praise it or spit at it," says Sajid, who's happy to attain a hat trick with three successes in a row.
"I have no idea the way to react, but it surely feels good to have entered an excessively exclusive club on the planet. I'M happy that the film is a large success," he says. Sajid also happens to be the second one director within the last 20 years, besides Rajkumar Hirani, whose first three films was blockbusters. Besides the duo, filmmakers Indra Kumar, Ramesh Sippy and Manoj Kumar also feature within the list.
"By now, audiences also know what to anticipate from my films. Or even though I'M REALLY NOT bragging, I DO KNOW what works with audiences," says Sajid, promising his next, Himmatwala, might be Ajay Devgn's biggest hit of all time. "I'm sure Himmatwala will make R10 crore greater than whatever business Housefull 2 eventually finally ends up doing. I'M challenging myself."
