Shootout At Wadala isn't a docu: Anil Kapoor

By Hindustan Times

Actor Anil Kapoor, who's currently shooting for director Sanjay Gupta’s crime-thriller, Shootout At Wadala, clarifies that the film, which depicts the encounter of gangster Manya Surve in 1982 with the police, isn't a documentary.

“Shootout at Wadala isn't a documentary film. It's an entertaining drama. Keeping the facts intact, we've got picked one of the turning points and engaging incidents from his life and feature dramatised them to make it an entertaining film,” says Anil, who plays the role of police officer Isaqe Bagwan, who fatally wounded Manya, played by actor John Abraham. Kangana Ranaut plays the lead opposite him, while Sonu Sood plays Dawood Ibrahim within the film. Actors Manoj Bajpai and Tusshar Kapoor may also be seen in pivotal roles.

Kapoor, who recently shot for an action sequence at a chawl located in a narrow bylane in Andheri (W), says, “I am very comfortable shooting in such places. That is the real Mumbai: places like Dharavi, Dongri, Chembur, Parel, Lalbug, Girgaum, where the general public live in chawls.” He adds: “I, too, lived in Chembur in my initial days.” Kapoor shot with actor Ronit Roy and Mahesh Manjrekar on the location.

The Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) actor has grabbed another Hollywood film, Cities, to be directed by Roger Donaldson. The actor plays a cop in that movie too.

He is raring to do Hollywood projects as he gets to exhibit his acting skills to a bigger audience.

“The Hollywood films I'VE done has been big grossers. That suggests their reach is very large and that provides an enormous exposure to my work,” he says. But ask him if, after doing two Hollywood films, he's now tuned to their work culture, and he says with a laugh, “This is my home. I'M more well-off here for obvious reasons; I DO KNOW the work culture here so well. There I THINK lost sometimes.”

The shoot for Cities is about to begin around October.
