Ehsaan-Loy tune in for television

By Hindustan Times

Not having to work with a suite storyline or a temporary is usually a refreshing change. Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, who make up two-thirds of 1 of Bollywood’s most successful composer-teams, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (SEL), say that putting one’s own experiences into making music is most satisfying.

For their episode at the television music series Coke Studio, where composers present original content, the duo prepare a team comprising singers and musician spanning different genres. From playback singers Dominique Cerejo, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Jasbir Jassi and Benny Dayal to folk artistes from Assam and Rajasthan, their episode may even feature flautist Rasika Chandrashekhar and slide guitarist Prakash Sontake.

“For our songs at the show, we drew inspiration from our own lives and experiences. It was a collective effort and an incredible experience right from the start. In Man patang, sung by Dominique, Mahalaxmi and two Assamese artistes, you'll find two very different vocal styles coming together,” says Loy, who could be seen playing keyboard and bass guitar at the show.

He adds that besides giving a structure to their compositions during recording, in addition they fascinated about letting their team of musician interpret the songs.

“Each one brought in his or her musicality as they're all very creative. As producers, we didn’t wish to overstate anything,” he says. Ehsaan adds, “We just make certain that the music goes in a selected direction.”

On the Bollywood front, SEL is currently composing the music for the impending Farhan Akhtar-starrer, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. They recently finished engaged on the soundtrack for Nikhil Advani’s bi-lingual 3D animation film, Delhi Safari.
