You’d think being filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter would open many doors for Alia Bhatt in Bollywood. However, the actor, who's all of nineteen years old, has always been clear in regards to the indisputable fact that she doesn’t wish to take the 'easy' path to Bollywood. The outcome: she was cast in Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year (SOTY).
“I always desired to make it alone and i'm happy to have achieved that. Right from the beginning, I had decided that I don’t wish to be launched by my father’s company (Vishesh Films). Honestly, it could was a better way (for me). After all, why wouldn’t my father launch me?” says Alia, about Bhatt senior, who's known to launch new actors in his films.
But Alia, who's also veteran actor Soni Razdan’s daughter desired to 'experience something else'. She adds, “In addition to dropping pounds and grooming myself in some way that I'D be accepted (within the film industry), I also needed to audition for the role.”
SOTY will even feature newbies Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan (director David Dhawan’s son).
Ask if she always intended to make her debut in a normal Bollywood film like this and she or he says, “Absolutely.
I have always been keen on Hindi movies, and that i couldn’t have asked for anything better. I remember once I came upon a year ago that Karan would direct me in my first film; I just couldn’t sleep that night.”
Since Mahesh and Soni was a part of the film industry for several years, does Alia ask for his or her advice? “Of course, they're always there for me, but I NEED to do whatever I WILL (in my career) on my own,” says Alia.
