It is going to be anything but Langda Tyagi: Saif Ali Khan

By Hindustan Times

Remember Langda Tyagi in Vishal Bhardwaj's Omkara (2006)? Saif Ali Khan's career took a large leap after his portrayal of a Uttar Pradesh-based gangster within the Bollywood adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello.

Now, six years later, Saif is ready to don a country UP gangster avatar again in Tigmanshu Dhulia's next. But contrary to rumours, Saif denies that his character on this film has anything to do with Langda Tyagi.

Apparently, Saif is against the speculation of reprising his iconic character. "WE CAN see Saif in a fully different light. Since his earlier character became a cult of sorts, the setting and concept may remind viewers of Langda, however the filmmakers and Saif are ensuring that the characterisation is distinct," says an insider on the subject of the project, adding that the general draft of the tale continues to be awaited.

Saif Ali Khan was last seen in Cocktail with Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty.

Saif says, "WE'RE seeking to finalise a movie with Tigmanshu (Dhulia). Though the script is ready within the UP hinterlands, I WILL BE ABLE TO play anything but Langda Tyagi. Why would I attempt something that I'VE already done within the past?"

Saif's Madhumati connection
Recently Saif was within the news with reports suggesting that he's creating a black and white remake of the Dilip Kumar-starrer Madhumati (1958). Ask him and he says, "I'VE no idea. It's true I LIKE Madhumati. But I WILL NOT remake it, and that too in black and white, because the idea won't be feasible in today's day and age."
