Most music buffs will remember singer Raghav Mathur for his 2004 song Can’t get enough, that is a remix of a well-liked retro Hindi tune Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar (Aar Par, 1954). The Canadian artiste, known for his distinctive pop-R&B style, recently made his Bollywood playback debut with Ishq
Shava in Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
“Working with AR Rahman (music composer for the film) was a dream come true. We had a meeting, where he asked me to sing something.
I did and everything else followed. All of it happened in no time. Plus, I USED TO BE thrilled to be the voice for Shah Rukh Khan,” says Mathur.
He adds, “The sound of Bollywood music is changing and composers are taking huge risks. Currently, I’m engaged on some Bollywood and Hollywood projects with Rahman. He's feeding me with endless knowledge.”
Having released three albums within the past, the singer could also be engaged on putting out a video for his single named Fire. He also hopes to join the steady rejuvenation of indie-music scene within the country.
“After 2006, I’m not quite sure what happened to the pop music industry in India. It’s crucial to have a healthy music scene, because not just does the standard of music gets better, however the listeners get to have a better choice within the music they like,” says Mathur. A peppy duet, Ishq Shava also features singer Shilpa Rao. “Her voice is super unique,” says Mathur.
Ask him about what, consistent with him, contributed to the success of the song and he says, “It is the facility of late Yash Chopraji, Shah Rukh Khan and Rahman.”
