Vidya Balan is the face of Victoria’s Indian Film Festival in Melbourne

The success of ‘The Dirty Picture’ has turned out to be an immense milestone in actress Vidya Balan’s career. Suddenly, the actress appears to be everywhere in this day and age. She is operating in a lot of prestigious projects, she is doing an item number, she is being booked for award functions and stage performances and so forth and so on. The newest addition to this list is that she have been roped in because the brand ambassador of Victoria’s Indian Film Festival to be held in Melbourne this year.

“I am delighted to be named because the brand ambassador for the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne. I LIKE the format of the festival and the wide variety of movies screened,” Vidya said adding, “It not just showcases the most productive of Indian cinema but in addition provides a platform for young, upcoming film makers through its short film competition. Once I was in Melbourne, I USED TO BE captivated with the town and its love for films and its multi-cultural spirit. I'M sure the festival will contribute greatly so as to add to that spirit.”

The 10-day festival will happen in mid-2012 and showcase the flexibility and potentials of the Indian film industry.

“The festival complements more than a few initiatives to develop ties between the Victorian and Indian film industries, including a Victoria/India Co-production Initiative as a way to see ten Victorians travel to FICCI Frames in Mumbai in March,” Louise Asher, minister for innovation, services and small business, said adding, “The initiative may also support as much as three Victorian companies to develop a feature film, television or digital media project as a three way partnership with a production entity based in India.”
