Gear up for the uncensored promo of ‘Jism 2′ on the web

That Pooja Bhatt’s forthcoming ‘Jism 2’ will surpass all its previous contenders in its hotness quotient is not any more some degree to doubt, but it surely didn't go down well with Pooja Bhatt when the censor board gave an A-certificate to the song which was to be aired on television for the promos of the film.

Pooja tweeted, “First music promo for #Jism2 have been given an ‘A’ certificate. And this was what you can still call a very watered down version.” Pooja talked about sarcastically on the growing boldness at the television and said, “One sees every kind of double entendre, etc dished out to us under the guise of ‘family entertainers’ while any iota of sensuality geared toward the thinking, passionate, adult Indian seems to make most uncomfortable.”

Pooja has decided to not tone down her trailer song and can release it on the net instead. She said, “Absolutely REFUSE to pare my scheduled trailer all the way down to pander to an over cautious Censor board. Will release promo on the net instead. Since we’re going the web way, you’ll see an uncensored version!”

Anupama Chopra's review: Maximum

By Hindustan Times

Direction: Kabeer Kaushik
Actors: Sonu Sood, Naseeruddin Shah, Mohan Agashe
Rating: **

Can all of us agree that Bollywood has squeezed as much cinema as is humanly possible out of Mumbai’s infamous encounter cops, their weasel-faced informers and the police-politician-builder-underworld nexus? Can these subjects be embargoed for the following five years in order that viewers get a break from grim men gunning down other grim men in dark alleys? And while we're at it, let’s ban girls jiggling in dance bars too.

In Maximum, director Kabeer Kaushik takes all the above and fashions it right into a cautionary tale about two power-hungry, corrupt encounter specialists. Pratap Pandit, played by Sonu Sood, is the young turk who challenges the supremacy of the equally blood-thirsty Arun Inaamdar, played by Naseeruddin Shah. Their rivalry is used and abused by their seniors and juniors, a don and a wily politician. Everyone shoots at one another until all of them fall down.

Kaushik, who earlier made the police drama Sehar, is obviously enamoured by these men. Pratap is a rockstar cop who invariably walks in glorifying slow-motion, has a loving wife and child, but may be living it up with Bollywood belles and bar dancers, and doesn’t such a lot speak as pronounce judgment with inordinately long pauses. Using his imposing physicality to full effect, Sood mostly postures while Shah slums it. He keeps a hard and fast snarling expression for a lot of the film.

Kaushik has also written the film but he seems more fascinated by style than substance. There may be little character delineation or growth. It’s all about being gritty and funky. So characters deliver lines comparable to ‘bada game khelo’ or ‘what a player.’ Slow motion shots of birds flying over Maximum City are usually used to glue scenes. Kaushik effectively captures the crowds and frenetic energy but little this is compelling or new. The entire usual Mumbai sights are ticked off — local trains, the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, Marine Drive lashed by the rains. Too early within the film, fatigue sets in and the strangely inert plot doesn’t help to relieve it.

Maximum has stray moments of power however the film looks like a Ram Gopal Varma rehash; mercifully though there are not any cameras zooming into teacups like there have been in Varma’s recently released Department, which was also about power-hungry, corrupt encounter specialists.

We actually need an embargo.

Addressing rumors about his private life, he added: "YOU SIMPLY need to keep going and keep in mind that. The opposite stuff? I hear it, I read it, I AM GETTING it. But life isn't an issue of seeking to prove anything to anybody."

Born in The big apple state in 1962, Cruise was raised by his mother and infrequently knew his father who left early on. That did not change his feelings about family.

"I always desired to be a father, a husband," he told Playboy.

Cruise, still one in every of Hollywood's most bankable stars as shown by recent box office smash Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, was married to Australian actress Nicole Kidman from 1990 to 2001. The couple had two adopted children, 19-year-old Isabella and 17-year-old Connor.

He was also married to American actress Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990 and had a three-year relationship with Spanish star Penelope Cruz after splitting up with Kidman.

News of the divorce result in an avalanche of messages on Twitter, many sarcastic in nature.

"Mimi Rogers 1956 Nicole Kidman 1967 Katie Holmes 1978 - my supercomputer analysis says Tom Cruise's next wife was born in 1989," said one, signed HAL 9000.

Critics verdict: Maximum fails to provoke

By Hindustan Times

The crime-thriller directed by Kabeer Kaushik, starring Sonu Sood, Naseerudin Shah and Neha Dhupia, fails to create the 'maximum' impact. The film revolving around cops and encounters is another run of the mill story with poor direction and a skeletal plot.

Here's what the experts must say:

Saibal Chattarjee, NDTV
Rating: **1/2

Trigger-happy Mumbai cops gunning for gory glory has been the topic of many a Bollywood action flick of the past decade and a bit of. This one promises the utmost. Does it deliver? Not quite. Maximum bites off excess of it may possibly comfortably chew. Maximum lacks the nuanced detailing and the urgent pacing that are meant to have automatically sprung from a theme yanked out of the inner files of a highly politicised police force.

But all said and done, Maximum isn’t a washout – not by a protracted chalk. It's well crafted and superbly acted. Sonu Sood specifically leaves a long-lasting impression because the police officer under fire for excesses committed within the line of duty. The cameos by Vinay Pathak and Rajendra Gupta are impressive. Sadly, the hassle is maximum, the impact not quite so.

Gaurav Malani, TOI
Rating: Average

Naseeruddin Shah who plays an encounter specialist within the film substantiates his seniority by citing the precise selection of his encounters as 56. Unfortunately Kabeer Kaushik's encounter-specialist story Maximum doesn't even get a hold of an original figure at the encounter count and rather derives it from the cult film within the genre - Ab Tak Chhappan (56). More unfortunately, Bollywood has encountered the quintessential encounter specialist such a lot of times by now that there's not anything special left concerning the character or his chronicle anymore.

Kabeer Kaushik might need taken references from real-life cops and incidents but he is not capable of productively prepare the facts to return up with a riveting fictional account. Both his writing and direction lack innovation making all of the effort a traditional fare.

Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama
Rating: **

The difference between MAXIMUM and an assortment of flicks that experience taken with cops earlier is this one talks of the facility games that two encounter specialists delight in. A SINGULAR thought, without an iota of doubt, but MAXIMUM suffers for a sound reason: A skeletal plot that lacks meat in its screenplay. Kabeer may've borrowed from real-life, but he is not capable of bind the incidents and episodes convincingly in an effort to deliver a charming fictional fare.

there's not much that the film offers at the table, after you're told in regards to the two warring factions. There are sequences that appear repetitive or an extension of what one has watched earlier, besides moments that appear so hard to take in in a practical fare. The climax, for instance, though filmed brilliantly, looks unreal because the two cops battle it out on a secluded railway platform. Besides, the film unravels at a languid speed, that is quite a deterrent for a thriller. At the whole, MAXIMUM has an eye catching premise, but lacks the beef in its screenplay to depart much of an impact.

Kunal Guha, Yahoo
Rating: Minus five

Contrary to popular belief, this film isn’t a couple of nighty-clad mother (maxi-mum). It's about Aamchi Mumbai- the utmost city. But director Kabeer Kaushik’s film takes minimum interest in Suketu Mehta’s interpretation of town and if anything, only curdles it right into a milkshake of clichés. So Mumbai isn’t concerning the ‘Mum-bhais’ anymore. It’s about trigger-happy encounter cops, dance bars which can’t be distinguished from item song shoots and many people lying mum in a pool in their own blood; just about just like the theatre screening this film.

If Sonu Sood is the last action hero, your last brain cell that survives this film must be within the next season of ‘Bigg Boss’ for its ability to endure absolutely anything. Why probably the most finest actors of the Hindi film industry agreed to share space with this motley crew to position up a show worth forgetting, is something only Naseeruddin Shah knows.

Raja Sen, Rediff
Rating: *

Lamentably enough, Kabeer Kaushik's cop thriller is neither of these potentially fun things, and never even really a thriller. It is a pity, for Kaushik's Sehar remains probably the most solid cop movies in recent years.

This one, however, tries too hard to seem 'intelligent,' that is why voices are softened and conversations are made matter-of-fact. The theory of corrupt cops facing off against one another generally is a fine one, but mired here in the course of people saying things really really slowly, it loses its steam.

Zinia Ray, DNA
Rating: *1/2

With a movie like Maximum, you go in along with your hopes pegged on one person, and one person only, Naseeruddin Shah. You compromise all the way down to watch the film with fingers, legs and arms crossed hoping to have a good time. However, Maximum proves to be a movie so unsalvagable that even an actor like Shah fails to assist its case.

The script fails on many levels and the film seems longer than its 150-minute duration. The events, after a point, make no sense and become hard to follow since you are only too damn bored to care anymore. And, of course, there may be an item number Aa Ante Amalapuram you might want to look out for, like the way you would look out for a speeding truck or a cloaked figure with a hook for a hand. Don't waste some time and money in this one.

Nabanita, Oneindia
Rating: **

The film is about within the Bombay (and never Mumbai) of the past and the tale portrays encapsulates politics, land deals, and pretend encounters. But, to one's expectation, the film fails to deliver the utmost because the title promises.

Talking concerning the performances, Sonu Sood is an encounter cop of few words and lots of bullets. He's the blue-eyed boy of the Establishment. A PERSON with the entire greys and all of the power. Sonu has an excellent waku doki screen presence, but fails to prove himself as a result of weak plot. Naseeruddin in his element is an experience that needs no definition. Naseer is solely dynamic waku doki. No wonder Shah just steals the show together with his power pack performance. At the whole, the film certainly doesn't make any sense and fails to deliver the MAXIMUM.

That Pooja Bhatt’s forthcoming ‘Jism 2’ will surpass all its previous contenders in its hotness quotient isn't any more some degree to doubt, but it surely didn't go down well with Pooja Bhatt when the censor board gave an A-certificate to the song which was to be aired on television for the promos of the film.

Pooja tweeted, “First music promo for #Jism2 have been given an ‘A’ certificate. And this was what you can still call a very watered down version.” Pooja talked about sarcastically on the growing boldness at the television and said, “One sees all types of double entendre, etc dished out to us under the guise of ‘family entertainers’ while any iota of sensuality geared toward the thinking, passionate, adult Indian seems to make most uncomfortable.”

Pooja has decided to not tone down her trailer song and can release it on the net instead. She said, “Absolutely REFUSE to pare my scheduled trailer right down to pander to an over cautious Censor board. Will release promo on the web instead. Since we’re going the web way, you’ll see an uncensored version!”

Veena Malik goes bikini shopping along with her new beau

Gossip columns are going red with Veena Malik’s open display of closeness with filmmaker Hemant Madhukar who's directing a 3D horror flick titled Mumbai 125. Veena is playing the lead within the film opposite her alleged ex-flame Ashmit Patel.

First Veena was spotted getting cosy with the director at a pub. When those pictures started doing rounds, she rubbished the rumors saying, “If sitting and dining with someone is the same as flirting with him or dating him, it's nothing but rubbish. I share an even work relationship with Hemant, and that i also know his wife. So a majority of these reports are baseless.”

If that was not controversial enough, there are a fresh set of images out which show Veena in a blue bikini enjoying a lager by the pool side of a resort while Madharkar in a bathrobe sits by her side, admiring her. There are yet more of them where the director is shopping bikini for Veena and yet one more where the 2 are walking hand in hand.

Well, what excuse does Veena have for these kind of pics, we wonder!!

Shah Rukh Khan to get eight-pack for next?

By Hindustan Times

The last time Farah Khan directed Shah Rukh Khan, he hit the gym with a vengeance. The effects were the much-talked about six-pack abs he sported in Om Shanti Om (OSO; 2007). Now, as Farah gets able to direct SRK again in Happy New Year, it kind of feels just like the actor must do a gazillion more ab crunches. This time, Farah wants him to sport without equal eight-pack.

A source with regards to the film’s unit says, “Farah has conveyed to SRK that they should go a step further because the audience expects more from them as a team. SRK has agreed to work flat out and get an eight-pack by the point the film goes at the floors around September.”

Though Farah refused to make sure the news, she gave us enough to read between the lines: “SRK was to take off his shirt in Main Hoon Na (2004), but he got away with excuses. In OSO, he kept his promise and worked hard to get that sexy look. He still has life-size pictures of these six-pack abs at his home gym.”

Will he sport an eight-pack?

“It’s been five years since he sported a six-pack, so after all we have to transcend that. I MUST present him differently. We can surprise the audience again. But until SRK says it’s ok to talk, I can’t confirm his look,” says the director.

SRK is co-producing the film with Farah. She says, “We make an excellent team. Our last fight has made our bond grow stronger.”

Critics report: New Spider Man is astounding!

By Hindustan Times

Picking from where ex-Spider Man director Sam Raimi left off, Marc Webb seems to have passed the critics' test of expectations from a Spidey franchise. The clear winner, unanimously, is Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Spider Man.

Film: The fantastic Spider-Man
Director: Marc Webb
Cast: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Sally Field, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Irrfan Khan

Synopsis: Peter Parker finds a clue that will help him understand why his parents disappeared when he was young. His path puts him on a collision course with Dr. Curt Connors, his father's former partner.

Andrew Pulver, The Guardian
Rating: 4/5
The gear-shift within the superhero movie is now unmistakeable. Where after they aimed to actually replicate the experience of reading a comic book book, they now strive to be edgy, risk-taking dramas that do greater than simply pay lip-service to their characters' emotional lives.

Parker's abandonment issues have nevertheless loomed large in all Spider-Man films, and people searching for deeper shading of Parker's emotional make-up will certainly be pleased to look them.

Be that because it may, Webb successfully treads an excellent line between keeping the hardcore superhero-movie fans happy and injecting a dose of meaningful affect. Parker is in general reckoned to be essentially the most "relatable" figure within the superhero canon, however the pastel-bright synthetics of the sooner movies did little to dispel the sense that the comic-book world could only construct its characters out of clunking great blocks of melodrama.

In re-engineering Parker into the introspective, uncertain male more typical of his previous film, Webb is aided by an awesome performance from Andrew Garfield, who brings a genial unflappability that permits him to barter the often-ludicrous demands of the superhero plotline. On the same time, Webb also shows an unarguable facility for the more traditional action elements of the story, and the 3D certainly helps: he pulls off some properly nauseating shots as Parker dives off skyscrapers, rescues kids from falling, and the like.

It's the successul synthesis of the 2 – action and emotion – that implies this Spider-Man is as enjoyable because it is impressive: Webb's control of mood and texture is near faultless as his film switches from teenage sulks to exhilarating airborne pyrotechnics. It is just towards the end, when there is not any choice but to revert to CGI – as Rhys Ifans' Lizard goes at the rampage – that The fantastic Spider-Man gets rather less amazing: cartoony reptilian carnage has just lost its power to enthral if it's rather obviously happening inside a computer.

Robbie Collin, The Telegraph
Rating: 4/5
So for Spider-Man to register in today’s superhero-saturated market, he has to do something greater than pull on a candy-wrapper costume, swing from the similar skyscrapers and pander to the geeks within the cheap seats. Fortunately, Sony and director Marc Webb have get a hold of an excessively creditable, very marketable alternative, and it owes more to the hot success of Twilight than anyone in a fancy dress and cape.

Simply put, The fantastic Spider-Man is the primary superhero movie aimed primarily at women. The brand new Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) isn't any goofy teenage geek within the Tobey Maguire mould; he’s a bright, introverted young man with a furrowed brow, a Tintin quiff and a pasty Home Counties complexion. Garfield appears to be playing him as a half-gangly, half-graceful riff on Eduardo Saverin, his character from David Fincher’s Facebook chronicle, The Social Network.

In fact, if Webb’s film has a weak suit, it’s the supervillainy: Ifans’s character is underdeveloped, and his putative tragic fall is more of a depressing tumble. Some comic-book fans have also criticised the “unconvincing” lighting tricks employed to bring Ifans’s scaly alter ego to life, although I can’t say I’m entirely clear what a powerful rendering of a big angry lizard in torn purple trousers and a lab coat might look like.

But that’s to not say The superb Spider-Man is brief on blockbuster testosterone, and the film’s second half offers good enough bungee-swinging through Manhattan’s concrete canyons, immaculately rendered in vertiginous, silky-smooth 3D, to meet thrill-seekers of either sex.

What’s refreshing is the way in which Webb makes those action sequences count – with a plot that rests almost entirely at the plausibly tingly romance between his two leads.

Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly
Rating: A-
A friskier, sweeter-natured variation at the story Sam Raimi told in his recent trilogy, with greater emphasis on human relations than on special effects, this Spidey reboot refreshes an old story in the course of the on-trend notion of creating a Marvel superhero less...super-heroic. With an effortlessly winning Andrew Garfield now within the title role and the irresistible Emma Stone by his side as Gwen Stacy, probably the most delicious highschool girlfriend a bug- and love-bitten young man could hope to woo, The superb Spider-Man would be the first big-ticket, big-budget, big-action-sequence comic-book movie that still doubles as a lilting coming-of-age indie.

SpidermanI mean an indie at its very best, with smart attention paid to coming-of-age issues, including the prickly shyness of a social outsider who's a very simple target for bullies, the sexual and romantic awkwardness of a first-timer in love, the run-amok emotions of adolescence, and the unrest of an adolescent who feels abandoned by his father. Of course, attention could also be paid to a supervillain: the Lizard, a giant, destructive reptile played with impressive commitment to scaliness by Notting Hill's Rhys Ifans.

Through it all, Garfield fills both his slackerish Peter Parker identity in addition to his Spider-Man rubberwear with star-quality confidence. Mixing self-effacing sweetness with believable teen boy arrogance, then adding a wee drop of snark, the exciting British-American actor with the JFK Jr. dark attractiveness defies anyone to hate him because he's beautiful — or because he isn't Tobey Maguire. And any time the actor shares a scene with the radiant Ms. Stone...well, the 2 are a chemistry experiment gone as blindingly right as reptilian Dr. Curt Connors' little lab test goes terribly wrong. What's most amazing within the Amazing Spider-Man seems to be not the shared sensations of blockbuster wow! the image elicits, but rather the shared satisfactions of intimate awww.

Mark Adams, Mirror
That web-slinging superhero Spider-Man is back - again – and against the entire odds this 3D reboot is an engagingly action-packed and freewheeling affair, blessed with perfect chemistry between Brit Andrew Garfield and Hollywood star Emma Stone and a few grandstanding lighting tricks moments.

Young British actor Andrew Garfield is superb because the smart but mild-mannered Peter Parker – combining awkward nerdyness with an underlying strength – and provides the film a competent backbone.

There are some changes naturally enough – love interest this time is available in the blonde type of Gwen Stacy (played with charm to spare by the fantastic Emma Stone) and for some reason The Daily Bugle, where Peter sold snaps of Spider-Man within the original films (and the comic book series) is gone – but this re-telling is breezily watchable, despite a hefty running time.

The 3D works extremely well on the subject of his swinging his way across the Big Apple, though loses impact in relation to old-fashioned dialogue and straightforward one-on-one scenes. Luckily the film is blessed with the delightfully confident and colourful Emma Stone…she could be a little old to be playing high-schoolers (she is 22 later this year), but has such grace and poise – in addition to perfect comedy timing – that oddly she finally ends up being the actual beating heart of the film, with Garfield available to balance the geekiness with the superhero wisecracking.

The villain this time round is Oscorp scientist Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans) who gets transformed into the scaly beastie The Lizard. Yes he's powerful and harsh and green-skinned and has a tail, but somehow lacks the sheer villainous of alternative of Spider-Man’s usual enemies. Rest easy though…the post credits point to a brand new villain waiting within the wings.

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
Rating: 2.5/4
That being said, The superb Spider-Man has its virtues, chief among them its two stars: Andrew Garfield as Peter, the nerd turned crimefighter, and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, the daughter of a police chief (Denis Leary) who can not help being drawn into Peter's web. Garfield, so good within the Social Network and onstage in Death of a Salesman, puts his own stamp on Peter and his drive to unravel the mystery of his parents' death. And Stone just jumps to life onscreen. Gwen was played by Stone's The assistance costar Bryce Dallas Howard in Spider-Man 3, but her tackle the role is distinctly her own. The superb Spider-Man delivers in its action and flying scenes as Spidey fights the villain, a.k.a. The Lizard (Rhys Ifans). But that's due diligence. The core of the brand new movie is the affection story. It's no accident that Marc Webb was chosen to direct. Webb is the person behind (500) Days of Summer, the 2009 hit with Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt that may be among the best movie romances of the last decade. Webb never loses touch with the film's emotional through line. And he allows time and space for Garfield and Stone, both stellar, to show a high-flying adventure into something impassioned and moving. A Spider-Man that touches the center. Now that truly is amazing.

How Sonam Kapoor remains fashionable!

By Hindustan Times

Sonam Kapoor often is the poster girl of Indian fashion. However the actor has a mini army of favor experts who keep her prior to the pack. Excluding sister Rhea Kapoor, Sonam also enlists the assistance of stylists Tania Ghavri and Pernia Qureshi.

“I first got to work with Sonam after assisting Pernia on Aisha (2009),” recalls Ghavri, who also manages to maintain Kareena Kapoor looking elegant at the red carpet. Her celebrity portfolio increased as her work was showcased, and now includes Karisma Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan, Nargis Fakhri and Jacqueline Fernandez.

Like Ghavri, who admits that building trust with the notoriously fickle Bollywood troupe is the one solution to break into the business, stylist Nitasha Gaurav only managed to strike out on her own after establishing a rapport with the celebs in her former job as stylist with a way magazine. “The celebrity’s image could be very important, because styling is a sort of branding. What they're seen wearing influences the audience’s perception of them,” explains Nitasha, who has styled Bipasha Basu and Kiran Rao.

Shopping and playing dress up for a living seems like fun, but it surely comes with its own share of pitfalls. One of the most big styling no-nos is with the intention that a star client isn’t seen within the same high fashion gown that was spotted on a rival star.

“Actors are inclined to feel the necessity to be exclusive,” explains Ghavri. “So we talk to the logo if the dress was worn before booking an outfit. I also check popular fashion websites.”

The ever-expanding fashion police is another downside. But as Gaurav puts it, “You don’t always get to do what you want, since the celebrity has his or her own opinion too. But many of the blunders happen when they’re involved in doing their very own thing.”

Fashion all-stars
These are a few of today’s hottest designers that stars turn to of their hour of need:

French label Paule Ka creates simple, elegant evening gowns which are shipped to India all of the way from Paris.
Stella McCartney is a brand new favourite who was completely unknown in Bollywood even until two years ago.
Christian Dior, the primary name in expensive gowns, has always been at the A-lister`s speed dial.
Masaba Gupta’s funky prints and Gaurav Gupta’s structured saris are rising in popularity in celebrityville.

Dress like a man
Bollywood’s leading ladies don’t have the entire fun. As stylist and designer Kunal Rawal reveals, John Abraham, Akshay Kumar and Abhay Deol also pay good money to seem good. He says, “Guys are more relaxed. And so they all have good bodies, to allow them to carry off most international trends. Gucci and Salvatore Ferragamo are very talked-about. Often, I WILL BE ABLE TO lead them to custom suits, which they prefer because they know it’s considered one of a kind.”

Kareena won't convert to Islam to marry Saif

By Hindustan Times

She will follow in Sharmila Tagore's footsteps by wearing her sharara for the large day but Kareena Kapoor is not going to convert to Islam like her mom-in-law-to-be did 43 years back.

Kareena will reportedly not change her name or identity for marrying beau Saif Ali Khan.

In fact, Saif himself told Mail Today, "I MIGHT never want her (Kareena) to switch her religion. That's the trouble with religion really... it expects conversion. I DO NOT buy or believe that. I BELIEVE it's good that the government, too, has - unless I'm misinformed in regards to the law amended to incorporate it within the Special Marriage Act. If and once we do get married, nobody has to switch his or her religion."

In the past, the entire inter-religion marriages within the Pataudi family saw the ladies convert to Islam for the nikah. While Saif's Bengali mother Sharmila took the name of Ayesha Begum, his first wife Amrita Singh, too, converted and adopted a Muslim name.

The wedding will happen within the Pataudi palace, though it's uncertain whether the ceremonies might be done as per Hindu tradition or following Islam rituals.

Anurag Kashyap: Poster boy of Hindie!

By Hindustan Times

Fourteen years ago, I wrote an editorial for a number one news magazine on ‘The New Bollywood Brigade.’ It started with an anecdote about Anurag Kashyap telling Amitabh Bachchan off. Kashyap was only 26 years old then. Satya, which he had co-written, had established him as a hotshot talent.

The story went like this: Impressed with Satya, Bachchan had called Kashyap and said, “Let’s do something different.” Kashyap clearly told the superstar that he desired to do it his way. “Don’t set any limits because I’m writing for Amitabh Bachchan.” Kashyap wrote the script, which had Bachchan playing a gray character. Everyone liked it but, as Kashyap told it back then, “Bachchan developed cold feet... He wanted a justification for the nature. I said no. I said, let’s respect the audience. Let’s give them something to think about.” After that conversation, Kashyap said, he never went back.

Last week, Bachchan saw Kashyap’s latest film Gangs Of Wasseypur and raved about it on Twitter. “What a film,” he tweeted, “Anurag Kashyap’s direction amazing… Indian cinema taking path breaking strides… pride and extreme gratification.” Within the years since their first encounter, Kashyap has gone from being Bollywood’s problem child to the poster boy of ‘Hindie,’ that may be Hindi independent cinema. It’s been a journey fraught with struggle, depression, divorce and relentless battling with the powers that be in Bollywood — studios, producers, stars, trade pundits, even the Censor Board (Kashyap’s first film Paanch never released for the reason that Censor Board deemed it too dark for the Indian public). But Kashyap has endured.

Gangs Of Wasseypur is, by turns, absorbing and frustrating. It features terrific performances and scenes of powerful, explosive violence. Nevertheless it could also be indulgent and far too long. The film started slow on the box office, but picked up by the evening shows and is probably going to make around Rs. 11 crore net at the first weekend. Clearly, Kashyap’s brand of cinema isn't any threat to a masala entertainer like Rowdy Rathore, which has remodeled Rs. 130 crore in three weeks and is the largest hit of the year thus far. However the incontrovertible fact that Kashyap could get a massive studio — Viacom 18 — to place down Rs. 18 crore plus for a two-part, five-hour-20-minute, star-less saga concerning the coal mining mafia in Bihar is a victory. It signifies that viewers have choices on the multiplex. Yes, the box office Goliath is likely to be a full-blow, star-laden comedy or drama — this year’s biggest include Agneepath and Housefull 2. But there may be also more likely to be something smaller, edgier, ‘hatke’ running on the next screen.

Because Kashyap isn't any longer a one-man movement. Over the years, he has mentored dozens of directors and an astonishing pool of talent. In between his own projects, he has found time to provide films like Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan — the primary Indian film to make the official selection on the Cannes International Film Festival in seven years; Bejoy Nambiar’s Shaitan, Vasan Bala’s Peddlers and co-produce Michael Winterbottom’s Trishna. Dev.D pushed the astounding composer Amit Trivedi into the spotlight and Gulaal made us recognise the numerous talents of Piyush Mishra. Gangs of Wasseypur features an array of dazzling actors — from Manoj Vajpai to Richa Chadda to Tigmanshu Dhulia. There isn’t one false note among them.

These films and filmmakers are slowly expanding the definition of Indian cinema abroad. Bollywood remains to be the mum brand but there's an increasing recognition that another cinema is emerging. At Cannes, the India conversation can be dominated through which stars walked the red carpet. This year, for the primary time, the chatter was about Indian films — Gangs of Wasseypur and Peddlers screened within the festival sidebars. On the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, town to City section will showcase 10 Mumbai films; Gangs of Wasseypur is a robust contender.

Film scholar Ashish Rajyadaksha once said that it's “vitally important to take care of an experimental cinema for both the mainstream and the bigger cultural context,” for the reason that experimental cinema becomes “a research and development centre for cinema within the country.” What’s exciting is that Hindie and mainstream filmmakers are feeding off one another. So Motwane’s next is a period film with mainstream stars, Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. Kashyap is a co-producer. His next directorial project could also be a period film — Bombay Velvet, set within the 1960s Jazz Age, starring Ranbir Kapoor.

The creative churning is yielding sparkling cinema. That's why Anurag Kashyap matters.

Priyanka, Shahid debunk 100-crore-club myth

By Hindustan Times

A 100 crore box office taking is not any benchmark for success, and should also be exaggerated, say Bollywood experts. Last year, Ready, Bodyguard, Singham, Don 2 and RA.One reportedly revamped Rs. 100 crore. This year, Rowdy Rathore, Agneepath and Housefull 2 claim to have achieved the feat. But industry experts say that the figure is misleading. Some even say that it's exaggerated to spice up star pay packets.

“The R100 crore mania is a myth. Firstly because it’s only 40% of the overall earnings that involves the producers, rest 60% goes in paying taxes and the percentage to the multiplexes. So Rs. 100 crores is nothing but a phenomenon created by the celebs to maintain their next film’s fee intact. Bollywood is a celebrity driven industry, so the Rs. 100 crore hue and cry is meant not to just create a buzz concerning the film in question but in addition to boost the hype across the star’s upcoming films,” says Shailendra Singh of Percept Pictures.

Actors Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Naseeruddin Shah, too, have recently questioned the sanctity of the term. “The Rs. 100 crore club is simply a fad which has arise within the industry for the past three years. The movies which come under this category are of a undeniable genre only and done by those actors who've been within the industry for the last 20 years,” says Kapoor.

Priyanka Chopra points out that several small films have done better business than the R100 crore hits. “I’m happy that two films of mine — Don 2 and Agneepath reached that figure, but there were a large number of small films besides which, in line with ratio, was bigger hits than most R100 crore films- be it The Dirty Picture or Kahaani, Ishaqzaade or Vicky Donor,” she says.

Not one to mince words, Naseeruddin Shah calls the figure “laughable”. “It is sort of a balloon for you to burst soon. People on this industry love to boast, that's why the term ‘100 crore’ has come up,” he says. Actor Sonu Sood, whose film Dabangg reportedly made R100 crore also admits, “It is a fad. Films made on the cheap of R50 cr make R100 cr and we predict they've achieved a lot.”
Filmmaker Atul Agnihotri, who produced Bodyguard, says, “It generally is a success benchmark provided that the film was made on a small scale.”

John to work with SRK in Farah's next

By Hindustan Times

After signing on SRK and Abhishek Bachchan, Farah Khan has reportedly signed John Abraham for her next venture Happy New Year, reports Mumbai Mirror. "Farah wanted someone with an excessively cool body language for the fourth male lead. She were toying with the theory of casting John for a very long time. The deal was sealed a couple of days before John flew off to Turkey to shoot for Race 2," John's friend told the tabloid.

John Abraham apparently is happy about his role. "HE'S more than pleased he'll be working with Shah Rukh for the primary time. And he's excited he'll share screen space with Abhishek, with whom he enjoyed great camaraderie throughout the making of Dostana and was good friends with ever since," the friend added.

Happy New Year is anticipated to roll by end this year.

Esha Deol has a lavish mehendi ceremony

By Hindustan Times

After a gala sangeet with Bollywood biggies in attendance, next in line was Esha Deol's extravagant mehendi ceremony at a club in Bandra, Mumbai.

The bride-to-be looked pretty in an orange-yellow lehenga designed by Neeta Lulla. Her fiancé Bharat Takhtani wore a without-sleeves Nehru jacket over a yellow-white kurta-pyjama.

Mother Hema Malini looked gorgeous in a white-greenish sari. Father of the bride Dharmendra was again missing from the pictures of the development. He was not snapped on the sangeet as well.

Esha is prepared to tie the knot with businessman beau Bharat on 29th of this month. The low-key wedding in a temple in suburban Mumbai can be followed by a gala reception the very next day.

"We want the marriage to be a relatively private affair with relatives and shut friends from all sides in attendance. It's not possible to have the marriage at our home. We chose a temple as it is an ideal place for matrimony," Hema Malini had said earlier.

The happy family poses together.

The bride to be is worked up in regards to the honeymoon already. "Wedding prep occurring and on and on can't look ahead to da honeymoon," Esha had tweeted.

The couple got working on February 12.

Imran Khan to construct muscles for Sonakshi

By HT

In order to appear physically compatible opposite curvy Sonakshi Sinha, skinny Imran Khan was busy hitting the gym for his role in Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai 2.

Sonakshi Sinha who's quite well-endowed has up to now worked with brawny actors like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn.

“I am entering bodybuilding, in order that I WILL be seen within the frame with Sonakshi,” the actor was overheard telling a pal by the tabloid.

The film's shooting will kickstart in August.

It is to be recalled that Shahid Kapoor needed to really work flat out to appear older than Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met.

Hope Imran Khan is successful in matching Sonakshi's screen presence.

Bipasha to star in horror film Aatma

By Hindustan Times

After Raaz, Darna Zaroori Hai and the yet to release Raaz 3, Bipasha Basu has signed her forth horror film titled Aatma. Aatma, directed by Suparn Varma of Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena and Acid Factory fame, revolves around Bipasha's character and her experience with a spirit.

A set have been specially built at the 21st floor of a building in Andheri for the shooting of Aatma because the story happens in an apartment in a building. The film has a huge twist within the climax and to keep up the confidentiality, only Bipasha, director Suparn Varma and the producers, Kumar Mangat and Abhishek Pathak have your entire script.

Interestingly, Bipasha herself could be very petrified of horror films and covers her eyes together with her hands and watches horror films in the course of the gaps between her fingers, but that does not stop her from acting in supernatural thrillers.

Tusshar, Riteish to do a Shilpa Shetty in KSKHH

By HT

It seems that the makers of the film Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum are leaving no stone unturned so far as the film promotions are concerned. After releasing two of its tracks, 'Dil Garden Garden' and 'Shirt Da Button', Ekta Kapoor is now planning to release the third track in an overly unique manner.

If you thought that Shilpa Shetty was 'cool' within the 'Main Aayi Hun UP Bihar Lootne' song, then, Ekta is pretty sure that her film's lead stars Tusshar Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh will look supercool as they gyrate to this track on this film!

Ekta Kapoor, who has acquired the rights to remix this track, has now roped in choreographers Rekha and Chinni Prakash, for this specially created 'male version' of the track. The song is named 'Hum Toh Hain Cappuccino', whose lyrics has been penned by Kumaar, with its club-friendly music composed by the Meet Brothers. Ekta Kapoor is sparing no efforts to make the track look as lavish as possible. No wonder then, a whopping Rs. 2 crore set was erected at Film City that resembled a 'dhaba', where Tusshar and Riteish shot for the song with Sarah-Jane Dias and Neha Sharma.

In order to advertise this song, Ekta is now prepared to stroll the no-man's land. As part of the song promotion, this track might be released on Balaji's four consecutive leading prime-time soaps, making Ekta the primary person to take action. If that wasn't enough, Riteish and Tusshar might be donning a country get-up and shall tour the cities in an open truck with the song blaring from the loudspeakers.

With such a lot going for promoting the film, one just hopes that its BO collections might be something so we can make Ekta sing all of the approach to the bank!

Music review: Cocktail

By Hindustan Times

Within days of the Tum Hi Ho Bandhu music video launch, the song had assumed anthem-status. Going by that welcome, Cocktail’s soundtrack seemed promising from the word go. Singers Neeraj Shridhar and Kavita Seth’s vocals have already produced a success with this track.

Daaru Desi is a gem and deserves full points. This can be a perfect mixture of an excellent melody and intelligent arrangement. Singers Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgade bring to the song a singular freshness.

Among the 2 versions of Yaariyan, the acoustic one, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Arijit Singh, is more enchanting. Punjabi singer Miss Pooja’s vocals in Second Hand Jawaani hook you.

The club number, Tera Naam Japdi Fira follows the safe, yet tried and tested English-Punjabi-lyrics-meet-techno-beats formula. It doesn’t do justice to Shefali Alvares’s voice.

Luttna didn’t wish to overdose on electronica. However, a nice addition is Jugni, the track from Coke Studio Pakistan 2010 that was sung by Arif Lohar and Meesha Shafi. This version, which boasts of an attractive piano interlude, sees Arif team up with Harshdeep Kaur. The opposite versions of Luttna and Tera Naam Japdi Fira fail to depart a mark.

The album, as a whole, lacks variety. Most tracks overdose on electronica. But it’s definitely worth a listen for the primary four tracks at the album — they make up for what the compilation seems to lack in its entirety.

What we love: Fresh, dancing sound

What we don’t like: Loss of variety

Only asexual songs from Jism 2 on TV: Pooja Bhatt

By Hindustan Times

Filmmaker Pooja Bhatt has chosen to advertise Jism 2 songs with adult content through internet, "a greater than worthy competitor of TV", as opposed to showing them on television channels. "WE'VE GOT six songs in Jism 2. Only three cater to a universal audience without losing their essence. The opposite three can't be made to look asexual! Hence, we can only undergo the censor board and plug on TV those songs of Jism 2 what WE feel is acceptable for a family audience," Pooja tweeted.

"The three Jism 2 songs that cater to the common thinking, discerning, passionate, ADULTS could also be viewed freely and by CHOICE around the internet," she added.

The movie, a sequel to the 2003 film, features Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone, with Arunoday Singh and Randeep Hooda. It's expected to be a steamy affair, and so it should not be a surprise if the songs are shot in a definite way.

Pooja, daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, is glad T-Series, which owns the film's music rights, is in resonance along with her decision.

"Delighted that @ Tseries is in absolute agreement with us in the case of NOT releasing watered down versions of Jism 2 trailers on TV. That is the primary time a mainstream film has chosen the web and social media as a GREATER THAN worthy competitor to television," she added.

The actress-turned-director, who went behind the camera for the primary time in 2003 for Paap, says she is worked up being different.

"So THANKS censor board. The supposed roadblock you provided is definitely a gateway to a brand new, sane and fair future of ALL!" Pooja wrote.

"I refuse to enroll in the schizophrenic creed of filmmakers who peddle smut yet crave 'respectability'. You can not have your cake and eat it too! And if I DON'T get a 11 p.m. slot on TV for Jism 2, I'D rather go the DTH way. Amputation of one's inherent vision is for the weak," she added.

Jism 2 marks Sunny Leone's debut in Bollywood.

She is truly motivated with Himangini Singh Yadu’s victory as Miss Asia Pacific and says, “Every win at a global pageant is a proud moment for India. “I am ready for D-day. The preparation goes in full swing. You might be groomed from head to toe to compete with other representatives from different countries. I’m definitely going to position my best foot forward,” she said.

Vanya says that the grooming sessions were really tough for her as she needed to manage along with her engineering studies to boot. “Well, definitely it’s difficult for a woman of my age to get into the mode of 13 days of strenuous grooming session. I'M an engineering student, I WILL BE ABLE TO easily bunk my classes, but I USED TO BE not allowed to bunk grooming sessions. It was difficult, but I'M satisfied with the result. It helped in exploring hidden beauty,” she said.

As for her plans to go into Bollywood, Vanya says that she has other things to concentrate on at this time. “I love glamour, but I haven’t given thought to entering Bollywood as of now. I USED TO BE just the scholar after which I became Miss India, so it’s too early for me to plot future. I just expect and hope to win the international crown. My main focus is international pageant,” she said.

Saif Ali Khan to essay the role of Jawaharlal Nehru

Saif Ali Khan is riding high on his professional front. His forthcoming ‘Cocktail’ is yet to hit the screens but has already impressed the critics with its trailers. And now, Saif is ready to play the role of Jawaharlal Nehru in Britain-based Indian filmmaker, Gurinder Chadha’s partition film. Actor Naseeruddin Shah was approached to play the role of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Shah has already given a nod for the role.

“It is a large canvas requiring tonnes and tonnes of analysis and scores of characters. I’ve spoken to a couple people including Naseer and Saif. Nehru’s role is a cameo, so I PONDER if Saif could be willing to do it,” Gurinder said on phone from London.

The film might be shot in Delhi and Jodhpur. “I’ve already acquired the required permission to shoot everywhere in India including Rashtrapati Bhavan. So I'M prepared. I don’t need to shoot in Pakistan in any respect. This may be my ultimate dream project and that i can’t watch for it to take off,” said Gurinder adding, “This is my biggest challenge up to now. I’ve been engaged on my partition film for a while now. The central character is Lord Mountbatten. The movie is about in January 1947 when Mountbatten was asked to supervise India and the movie results in August 1947, so it’s a short lived time span”.

The film will go on floor this October.

Enough of sequels, comedies for Riteish!

By Hindustan Times

He is the quintessential comic actor of Hindi films but now Riteish Deshmukh, whose sequel to Masti will soon go at the floors, says he plans to forestall doing sequels and take a look at to be a part of drama and crime thrillers. "My next film can be Masti 2. I WILL BE ABLE TO start shooting within the first week of August," Riteish told IANS. He's going to team up with the unique cast - Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani partly two.

"It is myself, Aftab and Vivek within the film. It's my fourth film with Indra Kumar I THINK like I'M married to him," Riteish, 33, said.

Indra Kumar and Riteish's earlier projects include Masti (2004), Dhamaal (2007) and Double Dhamaal (2011).

Besides comedies, Riteish have been related to sequels and says he plans to transport in this". is my third sequel after which the fourth one will come, then I WILL BE ABLE TO stop doing sequels because the entire comedies that i'm doing are sequels - Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum (a sequel to Kyaa Kool Hai Hum) and Masti 2. I HAVE NEVER done a brand new comedy."

The actor also featured within the recently released Housefull 2, but he claims that he's not been typecast after playing such a lot of comic roles.

"In fact, in my case, it's been the opposite direction round. Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya happened and it was a rom com where Genelia (D'Souza) is more aggressive character. Thankfully, it worked."

"Obviously these series of flicks that i'm doing are sequels, they're brands and they're guaranteed to be comedy. After these films things have changed because people's perception has changed so now I'M looking ahead to do one drama and one crime thriller."

Riteish is currently gearing up for Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum.

Ranbir Kapoor courts trouble!

By Hindustan Times

Ranbir Kapoor has landed himself in fresh trouble. The actor, who was photographed smoking at the sets of his forthcoming film, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, last month, was served summons by an area court in Udaipur, asking him to look before it on Tuesday.

Kapoor, however, did not do so, and now the court has asked him to look before it on July 26. Harendra Singh, in-charge of Udaipur’s Ghanta Ghar police station, said that Kapoor was booked for violation of Section 5 of Rajasthan Prevention of Smoking Act.

If the fees are proved, the actor could also be sentenced to six-month imprisonment or slapped with a penalty of Rs. 200. Last month, actor Shah Rukh Khan was also summoned by an area court in Jaipur after he was photographed smoking during an IPL match.

I don’t even know what Daya Nayak seems like: Naseruddin Shah

By Hindustan Times

Naseeruddin Shah, who plays an encounter specialist in his upcoming film, says his character isn’t according to an actual cop. In an interview with Roshmila Bhattacharya, he opens up.

What made you sign the film, Maximum?
After back-to-back projects, I wasn’t within the mood to tackle another film. But I USED TO BE drawn by (director) Kabeer Kaushik’s conviction. I’d been impressed by his concern for the forces in Sehar (2005). Now, he’s back with this story of 2 encounter cops. I’ve always encouraged young filmmakers, despite the fact that the 3 debutants I worked with last year made terribly disappointing movies.

Is your character modelled on Daya Nayak (the Mumbai encounter cop who was within the news between 1997 and 2003)?
(Smiles) I don’t even know what Daya Nayak looks as if. Daya and Pradeep Sharma’s lives could also be fodder for the script, however the story is fictional. Encounters didn’t begin with them. As a child, I remember a friend’s cop father was referred to as the dacoit-killer of UP after he gunned down dacoits who’d surrendered. He reasoned that nobody would testify against them and they’d be out on bail in two weeks.

What’s your tackle cops who shoot to kill?
It’s easy to sentence them because we’re coping with human life here. Even a few of these cops (who were in jail until recently) are loose cannons. It’s a chilling realisation, but then, the lifetime of a cop is hellishly difficult given their ridiculous pay packets and job pressures.

Is the police fraternity more likely to be upset?
I can’t say. People get upset over trivialities just like the use of the word barber or a cobbler in a song.

Will the underworld take umbrage, for the reason that the film shows a Bollywood star with links to the mafia?
(Laughs) Unless their interests are harmed, I don’t see them getting upset. They've a whole lot of other problems to fret about.

When RGV ditched Naseer!
It’s rumoured that Naseer has signed Ram Gopal Varma’s Amma 3D being made in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English. Naseer denies it, saying, “No, but Ramu surfaces every few years looking to interest me with a task. He came to me with Department and a personality who’s heard, but never seen within the film. I accepted, concerned about the novelty, after which he disappeared.”

Children should keep away from Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum

By Hindustan Times

Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum is an entire no-no for children, says actor Tusshar Kapoor who can be seen within the adult comedy.

"Kids cannot see this film. Teenagers can see it," he said and added that though the film could have an A-certificate, it won't affect its box office
performance.

Talking in regards to the sexual innuendoes and jokes within the film, he said that the genre has become cool and trendy.

Apart from Tusshar, the film, didrected by Sachin Yardi, also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Neha Sharma and Sarah Jane Dias and was produced by his sister, Ekta Kapoor.

"When Kyaa Kool Hai Hum became a really perfect hit, I felt that it might was bigger had the family audience would have seen it. Everyone saw it, the women went with their friends and the boys went with theirs. But people didn't go along with their families. But now society has really changed," he told IANS.

"We had a narration and we toned it down, but everyone said that it was good but inferior to the former one. So then we brought back all of the jokes and the naughty humour," he added.

Kyaa Super Cool Hai Hum, is being released seven years after Sangeeth Sivan directed Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, which was released in 2005.

"We are lucky that no film of this type came in between. Housefulls have come, Golmaals have come, but they seem to be a comedy of a special kind. That is an adult comedy," the actor says.

Why the gap?

"There were numerous problems, Sangeeth desired to do different kinds of movies. He said he was not just a comedy director so he desired to make some actioners and thrillers. When he was ready, Ekta was not pleased with the script.

"Finally, Sachin came up with a script for a movie called Road Trip To Anjuna. But we liked it so much, Ekta decided to transform it into Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum and make it a two hero film," he said.

Finally, Arjun Kapoor to star in 2 States

By Hindustan Times

After several false starts and an entire bunch of actors and directors walking out and in of the frame, the film adaptation of two States is finally set to take off. We’ve now learnt that Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar’s co-production according to Chetan ‘bestseller’ Bhagat’s novel by the similar name is confirmed to star Arjun Kapoor.

Of course, there has been still some drama remaining on this roller-coaster ride — before finalising Arjun for the lead. It sort of feels Imran Khan were approached for the role. But he turned down the offer since he was tied up with multiple projects — Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, followed by Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 and Milan Talkies.

We tried reaching Karan and Sajid for comments, but they remained unavailable. However, the Ishaqzaade star is assumed to have formally signed the contract a couple of days ago. An industry insider confirms, “Yes, Imran was approached but he had date issues. That’s how Arjun came into the image. Both Sajid and Karan were very impressed along with his work in Ishaqzaade. So he was the following natural choice.”

When we called Arjun, he didn’t deny the news, but only told us, “I don’t intend to make any comments till things are finalised. Let’s stay up for the official announcement.”

However, our insider insists that Arjun is “very much on,” but have been instructed to not discuss the impending project as of now.

The drama over 2 States’ film adaptation started in 2010 when Sajid bought the rights. First, director Siddharth Anand (of Bachna Ae Haseeno and Anjaana Anjaani fame) was to tackle the film with Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra within the lead. Then Shah Rukh Khan entered the fray with director Vishal Bhardwaj. Chapter three saw KJo step in as co-producer with Ranbir Kapoor’s name being suggested for the lead role.

Now, before this casting story gets more chapters than the book itself, things appear to be falling into place. Debutant Abhishek Varman, who has worked as an assistant director on Karan’s My Name Is Khan (2010) and upcoming Student Of The Year, will direct the film. “It’s more likely to go at the floors towards the tip of the year. The remainder details might be finalised once Sajid is back from his Europe trip,” says the insider.

2 States is a love story a few girl from a Tamil family and a Punjabi boy, and the hurdles they face en path to marriage.

Glam Deepika insists on a desi avatar

By Hindustan Times

Remember Deepika Padukone’s character Shanti from Om Shanti Om (OSO; 2007)? The actor, whose Indian avatar became an instant hit with Farah Khan’s blockbuster, has gone back to that desi search for Cocktail’s new song, Second hand jawaani. When the makers came up with an concept to have a dance number with Saif Ali Khan, Deepika and Diana Penty, everyone was excited.

At that time, Deepika insisted that she would also, like her co-stars, wear an Indian outfit for the song. “Since the song comes right on the end of the film, Deepika felt that it was the most productive opportunity for her to move desi. It also won’t fiddle with the unique narrative of the remainder of the film, since she’s mostly sporting western clothes,” says an insider from the unit.

Choreographer duo Bosco-Caesar wanted Deepika to maintain the look she carried in OSO. They allowed her to make a choice her own clothes. “There isn't any doubt that she looks ravishing briefly dresses, skirts and hot pants in Cocktail, way to her styling by Anaita Shroff Adajania. But people are happy that Deepika decided to switch her search for the song,” adds the insider.

Director Homi Adajania says, “The song is the kitschy celebration of the film. The 2 girls tease Saif for being a constant flirt. Deepika is hot in Cocktail, but she (mostly) wears western clothes. The one thing that doesn’t change is that she looked just as smoking hot within the Indian outfits too.”
