of the film that may be celebrating the brand new role of women," she told reporters here.

She said she desired to work in Bengali films too. "Satyajit Ray is my favourite Bengali director. I'll like to work in a Bengali film. But till now, I HAVE NEVER received any offer. But I'VE taken videos of Bengali films like Antaheen and Moner Manush."

I almost fainted when Shirin's role was offered: Farah

By Hindustan Times

Farah Khan, who makes her acting debut with Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, says she was completely shocked when she was offered the role of Shirin in Bela Bhansali Sehgal's directorial debut.

"It was not a conscious decision. I BELIEVED Bela and Sanjay (Bhansali) wanted me to choreograph a song. But if they gave me the script, I almost fainted," Farah, a choreographer-turned-director-turned-actor, told reporters on the unveiling of the primary look of the film on Wednesday.

Co-produuced by Eros International and Bhansali Productions, the film will see Farah and Boman Irani because the lead pair.

"For almost per week I ASSUMED they were joking. After they told me it had Boman, half the job was done," she added.

Talking in regards to the genre of the film, Farah insisted that it isn't only a comedy, but a mix of all emotions. "...ON THE end of the climax, you can be crying. There's a lot of emotion. Each time Boman makes that last speech to me, I cry...It has everything in it," she said.

Farah is excited to make her debut with Bela's directorial venture. "I'M so happy that I'VE made my (acting) debut with a girl director. This makes it such a lot easier. Up to I'M a control freak, I gave complete control to Bela...We would improvise and ask Bela if I'LL do something or wear something, but rather then that, I USED TO BE an actress," said Farah, who has directed films like Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om.

Acting was tough for Farah and she or he added: "I USED TO BE very terrified of my very own reaction because I USED TO BE over critical of the movie and myself. After I saw the film, it was like numerous weight was off me," she added.

But Bela is delighted with Farah's work. "Farah really suited the nature. She played it so well that I DO NOT BELIEVE anyone else will have done it. She is a born actor," she said.

Bela says that she conceptualised the movie about eight years ago and that's inspired by an actual life story. "I had considered the movie eight years ago and that i wanted Boman and Farah only. And after eight years we made this film," she said.

Actors blow their own horns their belly buttons!

By Hindustan Times

In 1998, Salman Khan famously took off his shirt within the song ‘O o jaane jaana’ (Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya). Within the years to come, he would keep doing it with unfailing regularity, such a lot in order that ‘Name a film where Salman keeps his shirt on’ may well be a super quiz question.

The waxed and worked-out, bare-chested Bollywood hero was born because the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan followed suit.

Fourteen years later, actor Arjun Kapoor seems to have added a twist to the fashion. The brand new part to flaunt seems not to be the chest, however the belly button. Of course, actresses in Bollywood was doing it for years. But as Arjun danced to ‘Hua chokra jaawan re’ in Ishaqzaade, showing off perfectly toned abs, the male navel was well and actually within the spotlight.

What led choreographers Rekha and Chinni Prakash to return up with this move?
Chinni says, “Shirtless is passé. Everyone from the Khans to the Kapoors has done it. Habib Faisal’s brief to us was to do something different.”

Copy cat?
Curiously enough, close on Arjun’s heels, Akshay Kumar also has navel-baring moves within the ‘Dhadang dhang dhang’ song with Sonakshi Sinha in Rowdy Rathore. Chinni Prakash says, “It does look similar. I’m happy when one among my steps becomes popular, but I won’t use the similar steps in another dance number anytime soon.”

Eye candy for women
Farah Khan, who choreographed Shah Rukh within the shirtless ‘Dard-e-disco’ number from Om Shanti Om, says of the male sex symbol: “Of course, women fantasise about their favourite male stars. I don’t think they would like to peer all men skimpily dressed, but 95 per cent of ladies would wish to look SRK shirtless. If done aesthetically, it surely works.”

Hard work
Of course, the article to verify before showing off the navel is that it have to be a navel worth showing! And that takes hard work, if Arjun Kapoor’s now-well-known weight-loss story is anything to head by. Even for the song, says Chinni Prakash, Arjun rehearsed for 25 days. He says, “The song was shot even before Arjun started shooting for the film.”

He adds, “In the song, we would have liked that one step anyone could do at a marriage or in a disco.” Of course, before you are attempting it at a nightclub, we propose hours within the gym and a reality check before the mirror.

Mugdha Godse
The actor says, “Why should men have the entire fun? We actually have a right to ogle. Shirtless dance numbers has been done 100 times. We also need some variety. I REALLY LIKE this new ‘strutting the navel’ trend.”

Scarlet Wilson
Wilson, who shows off her pierced belly button in ‘Imported kamariya…’ from Shanghai, says, “India doesn’t have a Baywatch more or less show. What’s left for ladies to ogle remains their favourite male actors doing sensual dance numbers or lip locks. We must always have more male item numbers.”

Neetu Chandra
The actor says, “Less is more. Rather than a shirtless man, the hot navel-sporting trend in Ishaqzaade or Rowdy Rathore is sexy. We aren’t complaining.”

Sonam Kapoor calls Katrina Kaif shameless!

By Hindustan Times

Sonam Kapoor is understood to have a large mouth and doesn't really think carefully before speaking her heart out. Now, the fashionista has targeted one of the most Bollywood's top actors- Katrina Kaif.

Sonam told film journalist Anupama Chopra on the Cannes Film Festival: "I WANT to provide Katrina a bouquet of flowers." When asked why, she said: "I DO NOT understand how she does that you just. desire a certain roughly commitment and a definite more or less shamelessness to do certain stuff you. get that can be with stardom or with confidence to your talent or with who you're as an individual. I MUST develop that before I do films like that."

While Sonam will next be seen in Ranjhna opposite Dhanush Raja and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag opposite Farhan Akhtar, Katrina is doing films with the Khans of Tinsel Town. She has Yash Chopra's untitled film opposite SRK, Ek Tha Tiger with Salman and Dhoom 3 with Aamir Khan in her kitty.

Past cases

Sonam vs Ranbir
She had called Ranbir Kapoor mama's boy. "Are girls drooling over him (Ranbir)? Really? Ranbir isn't sexy in any respect. Ranbir is a mama's boy, his mother cuts his toenails for him," said the actor in an interview within the November 2011 issue of Vogue India. The Rockstar actor, too, had called his Saawariya co-star a 'drama queen' on Karan Johar's chat show Koffee With Karan.

Sonam vs Abhay
Anil Kapoor took a dig at Abhay Deol on Koffee With Karan: "He (Deol) seriously needs help. He's seeking to do the entire wrong things." In response, Deol had said: "He's right about me doing all of the wrong things. Aisha is the largest proof of that. And yes I do need assistance. Help not getting suffering from people like him. He's a waste of my time." Sonam reverted saying: "I never expected Abhay to be so disrespectful, it just shows how badly pointed out he's to speak this fashion about someone who's years his senior. We got to work together on my home production on a good note, but I ASSUME we aren't friends anymore."

Sonam vs Aishwarya
Ash had reportedly stopped Sonam from walking the red carpet for L'Oreal at Cannes 2009. Sonam had then started calling Aishwarya aunty. "Ash has worked with my dad so I MUST call her Aunty na," she had said.

Sonam vs Shobha De
In an interview with a newspaper in December 2008, Sonam took a dig at Shobha De: "for a 60-something porn writer, I'M sure she (Shobha) knows what she's talking about." Shobha had commented on Sonam's pic in lingerie: "Sonam just doesn't cut it within the sex appeal stakes."

Pissed off by Shobhaa De's harsh review of IHLS, director Punit Malhotra wrote on his Twitter page: "Shobhaa De is a fossil facing menopause. She doesn't get action. Going by her logic, should I be spanking Shobhaa if I DO NOT like what she writes?" Sonam had retweeted Punit's touch upon her own Twitter page, but later she had apologised as well.

Arjun Kapoor to play Salman's brother in Barjatya's next?

By Hindustan Times

Buzz is that the Ishaqzaade actor Arjun Kapoor could be playing Salman Khan's younger brother in Sooraj Barjatya's next film Bade Bhaiya. It is usually said that Salman's famous on-screen name Prem, might be retained within the film, reports Mumbai Mirror.

A source told the tabloid, "Sooraj Barjatya has finished the script. He wrote it keeping Salman in mind. They now want a young actor to play the parallel lead within the film. After watching Ishaqzaade, Soorajji was impressed with Arjun's performance. He arranged a gathering with Arjun and offered him the role."

Salman Khan can be playing a mentor to Arjun within the film. Incidentally, Salman have been mentoring the brand new kid in real life too.

However, Mr Gupta, the overall Manager of Rajshri Productions told the tabloid, "Sooraj ji remains to be writing the script of the film. He hasn't reached the casting stage yet."

Arjun Kapoor, 26, is touted to be the following big thing in Bollywood. But, it was easy for the actor to make the cut. He once weighed 140 kgs and needed to lose 68 kilos to go into the industry. And, it was actor Salman Khan who made him shed all of the flab. Kapoor now weighs a fit 72 kgs.

“Arjun always desired to become a director. Salman Khan kept observing Arjun at the sets of the 2009 hit Wanted, by which he was an assistant producer. Salman strongly felt that he saw an actor in Arjun Kapoor. He sat down with Arjun and said he shouldn’t waste more time learning direction and production, and will work towards becoming an actor,” said a source.

Shanghai to have a unique screening for IAS officers

By Hindustan Times

Filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee and actor Abhay Deol can be showcasing their forthcoming political thriller, Shanghai, to a symposium of 15 batches of IAS officers on June 5. The officials, who can be found in Mussorie for his or her annual meet next month, may be watching the film two days before its international premiere occurs in Singapore.

“My character is from their world, that’s why we wish to show them our film. I AM HOPING we will screen it for some chief ministers as well,” says Abhay, who plays the a part of an IAS officer within the multi-star cast film. He adds, “My character is powerful, opinionated, quiet, straightforward and egotistical.”

To be certain that he got the entire nuances of his characters right, Dibakar spent two months just studying the mannerisms of IAS officers. He says, “I stayed on the IAS Officers’ club in Hyderabad for a couple of days and observed the officials.

How after an early morning game of badminton, they sit and discuss issues over a cup of tea and despite roadblocks at work, they continue practicing achieving their goals; the best way they have interaction with politicians and police officers… I learnt so much. The insight I got into the working of the internal machinery has found its way into the script.”

It was during his stay in Hyderabad that an officer suggested Dibakar screen the film for his colleagues at their annual event in Mussorie. “When the rough cut of the film was shown to an IAS officer, he told us it was quite authentic. He lauded us for the detailing. But now that such a lot of will see it together, they are going to rip us, praise or put us in jail,” he says.

Doctors ask Aamir Khan to mention sorry!

By Hindustan Times

A Rajasthan minister has hit out at Bollywood star Aamir Khan for sensationalising female foeticide cases within the state, saying the federal government was already engaged on the problem before the actor's campaign.

Minister of state for health, Rajkumar Sharma said that it was not right at the a part of Aamir to focus on Rajasthan because the only state where the cases of female foeticide are rampant.

"There was an impression that the federal government has swung into action after Aamir Khan's campaign but to clarify, I WANT to focus on that the federal government is already working for a similar. Budget announcements to test foeticide are there and a number of other steps are being taken," Sharma told PTI.

"The government took up the problem much before Aamir Khan's programme. It isn't on account of him that the federal government is operating against female foeticide."

Sharma said that the actor must work on ground level to prove his commitment to the issue.

"He (Aamir) himself has said that he's an entertainer and can't work longer on one topic, that simply means what he's doing is for monetary gains. If he really desires to work in this issue then I welcome him to work here on ground," Sharma said.

Khan took up the problem within the first episode of his TV show 'Satyamev Jayate' aired on May 6 and in addition met Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot to request him to form a quick track court to expedite cases associated with the issue.

Ekta Kapoor gets hate mails for Bade Acche Lagte Hai leap

By HT

Come June-end, and Ekta Kapoor’s hit TV show Bade Acche Lagte Hain (BALH) will take a five-year leap. The producer says the speculation is to herald some amount of “freshness” to the show. “When we started BALH, the plan was to run it for under 150 episodes. But fortunately, the show has done well. Now the challenge is: how you can take the storyline forward and maintain the freshness?” says Ekta, who has received a whole lot of hate mail for her decision.

She claims she hasn’t got this type of strong response from viewers ever since Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi ended. “…after Mihir’s character died, actually. Not only me, everyone who's involved with the show have been on the receiving end. Starting from positive to negative, the reactions was extreme. My inbox has also been jammed. Honestly speaking, hate mail can get quite unnerving at times,” says Ekta.

The producer had even considered taking a six-month season break from BALH. “But in India, unlike the West, we don’t have this type of structure. Plus, we can’t keep making it dramatic with day-to-day happenings,” she insists.

Interestingly, roughly 20 episodes of the show (after the leap) may be set in Dubai.

“It’s going to be a fully different and new story. I’m going to switch all of the setting. It’s going to be a large step for Balaji Telefilms,” says Ekta, explaining why she needed to release a promo of the show post-leap a bit of urgently.

“There are some small ‘TV-special portals’ that keep updating false stories concerning the show. And that’s why audiences also get exposed to wrong information, which then results in such reactions. Audiences generally get attached to TV shows after which they get disturbed with such false reporting. That’s the explanation we've already released a promo,” she says.

By Hindustan Times

Salman Khan is gearing up for the discharge of Ek Tha Tiger and his not-so-good friend Vivek Oberoi has signed Sher. So who will prove to be "sher pe sawa sher" (one up) at box office?

Vivek says sher (lion) is greater than a tiger. "WE'RE all wildlife enthusiasts. So far as my knowledge is concerned, sher is greater than a tiger," Vivek told reporters in a light-hearted remark when asked concerning the two films.

When further queried about Salman's another film Sher Khan, Vivek said: "IT IS A great point. The town is full of sher (Sheronka shehar hai)."

He was speaking at the occasion of global No Tobacco Day, that's May 31, on the 92.7 BIG FM studios.

Bollywood actors Salman and Shah Rukh Khan are seen as icons, but they're chain smokers. Vivek defends them, saying they acknowledge that smoking is a foul habit.

"They always say in all their interviews that they are attempting to quit and it is a bad habit ...THE MOST IMPORTANT problem with smoking is that it is a very individual decision. Whatever you do, people take their very own time to quit cigarette," the 35-year-old said.

This was the large party of my life: Karan Johar

By Hindustan Times

In his first interview since hosting the mummy of all Bollywood parties last week, Karan Johar explains why it meant one of these good deal to him:

Q Everyone turns 40. Aamir, Shah Rukh, Salman … all have had birthdays but none made this noise. Why this sort of big hoopla about you turning 40?
A: (Laughs) Yeah, you're right. All of them can have had celebrations but probably nobody overreacted the best way I did. But you see, everyone has some reason to have a large celebration of their life — getting married, the birth of a toddler — I’ve not had any of these. So this was THE MASSIVE party of my life. Also, the party was not only about me turning 40, it was about me finishing 15 years on this industry. I BELIEVE blessed.

Q But why was your party more like a red carpet awards function than a birthday bash?
A: It was a dream I’d always had. Manish (designer Manish Malhotra) was the director of this beautiful, grand film that my birthday celebration was. He styled everything, from the décor to the invites. Everyone at Dharma Productions worked overtime to make it that grand.

We chose a proper dress code because unlike Delhi, we don’t have seasons here in Mumbai and we hardly get to decorate up. Many guests called me as much as ask what should women wear in a ’black-tie’ dress code.

I said it’s not as though we're going to play fashion police if you're dressed casually but it’ll be nice to wear formal Indian or Western… they usually all did.

Q Who, in line with you was the most efficient dressed man and girl on the bash?
A: Gauri (Khan) looked stunning in her red gown. Among men, I ASSUMED Aamir (Khan) looked the most productive in a Tom Ford bandhgala.

Q Almost all of the industry turned up, but did you miss anyone particularly who couldn’t make it?
A: I ACTUALLY wished Salman (Khan) had come. I’m exceptionally keen on him. But then he and Katrina were shooting for my ally Kabir Khan’s film in Bangkok, so I couldn’t also have dragged them from there.

Q There have been rumours that Priyanka Chopra won’t be invited due to the recent differences you two have had, but you probably did invite her eventually. She also came straight from her brother’s graduation ceremony in Switzerland. Is all sorted for good, then?
A: Yes, it's. I realised that it’s unlikely to assist either Priyanka or me to maintain carrying the emotional baggage of whatever happened recently, and all that was said or written about it. I ASSUMED to myself, I’m turning 40, I NEED TO be the senior and mature one to increase the primary step, which I did by inviting her. She honoured the invite by turning up, and all’s good now.

Q So how naughty was turning 40 for you? Were there any err … naughty surprises planned by friends?
A: (Laughs) By no means. My party was total ‘un-adult-rated’ fun. C’mon, my mom was there till very late. We just had a blast dancing till the wee hours within the morning. But none of it was naughty!

Q And who danced the most?
A: Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone. Not together, after all (laughs). They only wouldn’t get off the dance floor. Thankfully, Shah Rukh didn't take place late for this party, as he often does. I had warned him to show up while I’m still 40!

Q What was probably the most memorable moment of the evening for you?
A: Funnily enough, it’s not any emotional moment. The décor was all red and black, and the mood lighting within the hall was very dim.

So after being in near darkness all night, once I came out after the party ended, the intense sun glared into my eyes because it was 7 within the morning. I felt blinded for a moment, and realised we had danced all night. Won’t ever forget that moment.

I'M my very own competition: Sonam Kapoor

Actor Sonam Kapoor, who stars as a small town belle in her upcoming film Raanjhana, says she loves to follow a special path and is pitted against no person but herself in Bollywood.

"I never compete with any of the heroines, whether I'M starring alongside them or not. I DON'T BELIEVE there may be any reason to take a look at any competition and work. I REALLY believe that i'm my very own competition and that is the way I need to be," the actor told PTI.

She is starring opposite Kolaveri Di fame Dhanush in Tanu Weds Manu director Aanand L Rai's upcoming film, that's set in Varanasi.

Sonam, counted probably the greatest dressed actors in Bollywood, says the director was so confident about her style that he allowed her to make a choice her own clothes within the movie. "THAT THEY HAD such a lot confidence in me being stylish that they allowed me to wear whatever I NEEDED. They did not give me any input whatsoever on what to wear and just explained to me the placement. So I USED TO BE told that 'Hey Sonam, it's important to look spunky here and hot there'."

Sonam is playing a spunky girl who has a mind of her own despite the small town setting of the film. With only seven films in her near-five year career, the actor is currently committed to simply Raanjhana with a unique appearance in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

"One of the main explanation why I'M seen in few films is that almost all of them have demanded numerous time from me. I DO NOT need to do something forgettable. Whether a film works or not, people should remember the nature that I'VE played. For this reason why they still known me as Bittoo, Aisha, Aayat, Simran or Sakina. I work flat out but then I WOULD LIKE to have a life besides movies as well."

Wrong to name me 'badshah of cricket': Shah Rukh

By Hindustan Times

Bollywood 'Badshah' Shah Rukh Khan refuses to be called the "badshah of cricket" following the hot title victory of his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He says the credit for the win goes to all of the team.

"The team's badshah is our CEO Venky (Mysore), Jai (Mehta) and naturally the entire cricket team. It'd be wrong for us to take any credit for the win, me or Juhi (Chawla)," Shah Rukh said on Tuesday night after his return from Kolkata.

"We go there (at the field), pray to god and we like our team. But we do not work flat out just like the team. I WILL NOT take the credit from them and make contact with myself the badshah of cricket," he added.

A victory parade was held in Kolkata within the team's honour on Tuesday, and Shah Rukh celebrated on the Eden Gardens with West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and team co-owner Juhi Chawla.

Asked in the event that they plan to increase the celebrations to Mumbai, Juhi said: "WE HAVE NOT slept for 2 days, we were going crazy with happiness. First, there has been celebration in Chennai, then next day there has been a large celebration in Kolkata. It has been huge and overwhelming, it felt like now we have won the world."

KKR were crowned the IPL champions on Sunday night in Chennai once they beat Chennai Super Kings within the final match.

Cocktail’s capital climax!

By Hindustan Times

Remember Love Aaj Kal’s (2009) inimitable climax sequence that was set in Delhi? Three years later, because the Love Aaj Kal (LAK) team is back with Cocktail, they’ve re-shot the climax within the capital, which they claim is “lucky” for them. Like LAK, Cocktail is about in London and Delhi.

The climax of Cocktail was initially meant to happen in London. However, since LAK’s ending was shot in Delhi, producers Illuminati Films reckoned that doing the similar for Cocktail would prove fortuitous. Co-producer Dinesh Vijan says, “Delhi may be very special for us, since we shot our first production within the capital. LAK even premiered in Delhi. The climax of Cocktail brings us back to Delhi.

We may have shot it in Mumbai, but since Delhi have been lucky for us, we felt we must go there.”

For the uninitiated, Cocktail brings together all of the team of LAK. Besides lead actors Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan, Imtiaz Ali (who directed LAK) has written the tale and Saif and Dinesh’s Illuminati has produced the film.

Also, the music for both films is by Pritam. The addition to this team is director Homi Adajania of Being Cyrus (2005) fame. The film will even mark the debut of model Diana Penty, besides having Dimple Kapadia and Boman Irani in supporting roles.

“Not many know that initially, the film was presupposed to be titled Love Aaj Kal 2. However, they didn’t want the film to encounter as a Love Aaj Kal franchise, in order that they called it Cocktail,” says an insider. The primary look of the film was released online a couple of days back.

Now, trouble for Subhash Ghai in Haryana!

By Hindustan Times

In a setback to Bollywood filmmaker Subhash Ghai, the Punjab & Haryana high court on Tuesday stayed the allotment of 20 acres of panchayat land in Haryana’s Jhajjar district to Ghai’s company Mukta Arts.

Ghai was planning to establish a branch of his Whistling Woods film institute at the plot in Badhsa village along the Delhi-Gurgaon border.

The division bench passed the stay orders after taking cognisance of a petition filed by Nafe Singh, a retired schoolteacher from Badhsa.

Singh challenged the allotment alleging that the village common land was sold to Ghai’s company at subsidised rates within the guise of “public purpose”.

The land — as regards to the Kundli-Manesar Expressway — was sold to Mukta Arts on September 30, 2010 for Rs. 8.3 crore.

The court has asked Ghai, Haryana government and deputy commissioner of Jhajjar to file their replies to the contentions raised within the plea before July 31. Earlier this year, the Bombay high court and the Andhra Pradesh HC had cancelled the allotment of 20 acres of land to Ghai in Goregaon, Maharashtra in addition to Hyderabad.

Hangal back in action at 97, says age no bar!

By Hindustan Times

Once an actor always an actor. Quite true for 97-year-old A.K. Hangal, who wears grease paint despite the ripe age in a task within the television show Madhubala. He's excited and says work knows no age limit. "I THINK there is not any age limit to work. But at the present time I AM NOT keeping well,"
Hangal told IANS.

Talking in regards to the show, he said: "I'M feeling great about it. For past few years I HAVE NEVER worked, but I'VE done a small role within the serial."

He was active in filmdom since 1967 and played on-screen father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle to many firstclass Bollywood actors, but two years ago Hangal - the famous Rahim Chacha of Sholay - was struggling for his life as his source of income had dried up and there has been hardly any money for food or medicine.

But his son Vijay, 75, says that now they're doing fine.

"Financially we're doing fine. We keep getting help from people from the film fraternity. There are numerous people from the industry who're our well-wishers. We also get help from welfare trust. At this time we're not facing any financial problem," he told IANS.

Prashaant Bhatt, concept head of Madhubala, says that he thought of A.K. Hangal for the show since the serial is a tribute to 100 years of India.

"As we have now mentioned earlier that Madhubala is a tribute to 100 years of Indian cinema. Mr. A.K. Hangal was a part of the industry for this type of very long time and his presence made an enormous difference to us. In fact, his blessings matter a lot," said Bhatt.

He was initially sceptical about Hangal accepting the role, however the senior actor's enthusiasm proved his worries wrong.

"Very frankly, he was super excited to do the role. He's 97 now and he has not been keeping well, so we were sceptical whether he would conform to do the role. But if we spoke to him, he said when and where to return for the scene and what's going to be my role," added Bhatt, who's also the fiction head of Colors, told IANS.

"He involves the set, looks around and together with his gentle voice he calls - 'makeup man'. Once an actor always an actor. It was an honour to have him at the show," he added.

Madhubala went on air Monday and it tells the tale of a woman who's forced into the arena of showbiz. Drashti Dhami plays the title role and the solid also includes Vivian D'sena, Raj Zutshi and Shagufta Ali.

Cult classic Mother India inspires new DD show!

By Hindustan Times

After 18 years, Prasar Bharti and Mumbai Doordarshan have joined hands to supply an in-house serial. The weekly social drama, Jamunia, was shot in Kolhapur and premiered at 10.30 am on Sunday. The brainchild of the channel’s deputy director general and the series’ consultant, Lakshmendra Chopra, Jamunia was directed by Suresh Singh Bishnoi.

“It’s like Mother India on TV. Richa Soni plays a modern-day Nargis. After her teacher-husband is killed by the local landlord, she braves all odds to elevate her two kids and urges the villagers to fight for his or her rights,” says music director, Nikhil Kamath, who has recorded 20 songs for the 30-episode serial, working closely with director Suresh Singh Bishnoi and inventive director Udhayanath Nayak.

“I composed the title song, which Raajesh Johri wrote. Suresh and the DD team were so pleased with it that they decided to make use of music to take the message of social reform and women’s empowerment forward,” says Nikhil, who at the side of Raajesh has given Jamunia the texture of a Bollywood movie as opposed to a soap.

Incidentally, Jamunia also marks Nikhil’s comeback to TV. He last worked on Ravi Rai’s serials, Thoda Hai Thode Ki Zaroorat Hai and Teacher, though he has done various shows on DD in the intervening time including the brand new Year’s Eve gala.

Upbeat in regards to the 20 tracks he banked in 20 days, Nikhil says, “When Jamunia is taking her husband’s body to be cremated on a cart Kya Tera Insaaf Daata is playing within the background. She urges the villagers to fight for justice through Satyamev Jayate. Music is a vital part of the story.”

Album coming soon
Jamunia’s soundtrack will soon be released as an album. Music director Nikhil Kamath says, “The CD that allows you to be released by Worldwide Records, must be out shortly.” Incidentally, the show has offered a couple of promising newbies a platform: “Anee Chatterjee (the voice of Jamunia) has sung 16 to 17 songs. San Francisco-based singer Tori Datta Roy has also been given a possibility to showcase her talent.”

I enjoy working with an ensemble cast: Zoya Akhtar

By Hindustan Times

Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD) proved to be some of the biggest films of 2011. Besides the box office success, it won at practically each award ceremony this year, including the National Awards.

Understandably, Zoya and her assistant director at the film, Reema Kagti, are ecstatic about ZNMD being nominated once again, this time for ‘best story’ on the forthcoming IIFA Awards. Zoya says, “It feels great. It’s the last award ceremony of the year, and we’re hoping for the best.”

What made ZNMD so popular? Zoya says, “From the feedback I received, the audience connected with the idea that you’ve got to enjoy life to the fullest, and profit from what you have.” In fact, she admits that almost all people saw her first film, Luck By accident (LBC, 2009) only after ZNMD.

What was common to both Zoya’s films was an ensemble cast. Was it challenging to assemble such a lot of stars? “LBC had a larger star cast. But no, it wasn’t very difficult. And honestly, it’s the more, the merrier for me. I REALLY LIKE working with an ensemble cast,” she says.

Both her films also found their audience with a tender crowd. Ask Zoya if that was a conscious decision on the outset, and he or she says, “Yes, both the flicks have an excessively young feel to
them, but they’re also family entertainers. I don’t write a narrative in line with any particular theme.”

Reema Kagti, who co-wrote ZNMD with Zoya, adds, “A story is not only about what people will like. We need to fall in love with the concept that ourselves.”

Ask Zoya what her next project goes to be, and he or she says, “We’re just starting work on a brand new script. Excluding that, I’ve done a brief film with three other directors to celebrate the centenary of Bollywood.”

Gangs of Wasseypur opens with Faheem Khan's assault!

By Hindustan Times

Back in 2004, the world of Wasseypur in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, made headlines after greater than a dozen criminals attacked the home of notorious gangster Faheem Khan and opened fire from their AK 47 rifles. While Faheem escaped by jumping off the roof, his bodyguard Binod and brother-in-law Seraj were caught within the firing.

Seven years later, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has recreated this real-life attack because the opening sequence of his upcoming film, Gangs Of Wasseypur. Although the makers remain tight-lipped about it, insiders reveal that Nawazuddin Siddiqui portrays the feared gangster.

“The entire setting and treatment of the hole sequence is identical to the true incident. Anurag has gone all out to ensure that the scene doesn’t look fake and the end result was fantastic,” says a crewmember.

When contacted, Kashyap says, “All artistic endeavors are inspired from real-life incidents. Having said that, let me clarify that Gangs of Wasseypur may be a piece of fiction, however it has an excessively graphic opening sequence.”

However, it’s not yet clear whether reel-life Faheem dies within the attack or escapes unhurt. The real-life Faheem continues to be alive and believed to be in jail in Jharkhand. Kashyap describes this five-hour film, the longest-running entry at this year’s Cannes festival, as “a Bollywood-influenced gangster epic, that is part Western and part documentary.”

It follows three generations of coal and scrap-trade mafia gangs in eastern India, obsessive about Hindi cinema. The film stars Piyush Mishra, Manoj Bajpayee, Reema Sen and Tigmanshu Dhulia.

Rekha to star in Umrao Jaan sequel?

By Hindustan Times

The makers of the Rekha-starrer 1981 film Umrao Jaan, are contemplating to make a sequel to the unique film. Umrao Jaan, which was directed by Muzaffar Ali, was in line with the Urdu novel Umrao Jaan Ada (1905), written by Mirza Hadi Ruswa.

The film was in keeping with the lifetime of famous Lucknow courtesan. Rekha's performance because the central character within the film had won her first National Award.

Now, director Muzaffar Ali and some of the writers of the film Javed Siddiqui are contemplating to make a sequel.

"We have two story ideas that we're engaged on. One apparently has nothing to do with Umrao Jaan however the film is ready within the same period...it is ready aftermath of first freedom struggle. The opposite idea is to have a sequel to Umrao Jaan," writer Javed Siddiqui told PTI.

"As in spite of everything we've shown that she (Rekha) involves her kotha and we've not shown what will happen to her within the English regime, how she behaves and what happens to her. So we've a narrative wherein we now have Umrao Jaan as an older and more mature person... so this may be shown. But we do not know if this may happen or not," he said.

It is the producer-director Muzaffar Ali, who would take a last call on this matter. "NOW WE HAVE set to work on both the scripts. Both the choices (scripts) are good. I FEEL the verdict should happen in few days as to if we'd go along with the brand new story line or a sequel," Siddiqui said.

In 2006, filmmaker JP Dutta had pop out with the remake of Umrao Jaan with Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan within the lead roles. However, the film had failed miserably on the box office.

WATCH: Boman-Farah's comic chemistry in Shirin Farhad..

By Hindustan Times

Seeing Boman Irani and Farah Khan together in Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi really makes you suspect that love can happen within the impossible and unexpected places.

The film promises a really perfect recipe for laughter with the saucy romance, a generous sprinkling of rib-tickling dialogues and oodles of awkward adult moments. So, in case you are a kid, we recommend you stop reading right now!

The moment the music begins, you already know you're in for some serious laughter, add to that Boman Irani's solemn introduction of himself as a salesperson at "Tam Tam bra and panty dukaan".

What follows is Boman Irani seeking to sell lingerie (and quite plenty of it) to a rather embarassed Farah Khan and... Wait, we can't ruin your fun. Watch the video and spot for youself.

The film is centred across the eccentricities of 2 Parsis, who wind up together.

The film was directed by Bela Bhansali Sehgal and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Bebo’s size zero inspires film!

By Hindustan Times

Back in 2008, Tashan won't have made much of a mark on the box office, however the film’s lead actress sure did. A THIN Kareena Kapoor made all of the news, sparking off the size-zero revolution in Bollywood.

The inspiration is hardly surprising when, four years since, an upcoming film is titled Size Zero – Everyone’s Losing It. The filmmakers admit it readily. “Yes, the muse came from the fad related to Kareena’s size-zero trend. When she lost weight for Tashan, all of the nation was talking about it,” says producer Siddhartha Jain, CEO of iRock Productions. “Suddenly, women were talking about protein and carbs greater than anything else.”

Siddhartha is quick to clarify, though, that the film’s story isn’t inspired by Kareena’s life. “It’s a fictional tale of a woman who's stressed from her fiancé to drop pounds. In essence, the film is set a girl’s quest to score a size-zero figure.”

At this stage, the film’s script is ready, written by Anish Patel and Carmen Zainabadi. The director and cast are yet to be finalised.

Besides Size Zero, Siddhartha’s other films, Disco Valley and Ja Chudail Ja, are already in production. Next to move at the floors is Pool, to be directed by Kunal Roy Kapoor of Delhi Belly fame. It’s slated to be something at the lines of a Japanese murder mystery film.

“The idea is to come back up with films a good way to create curiosity and attract audiences,” says Siddhartha. And who comes up with the out-of-the-box titles? “As an artistic producer, I MUST recall to mind the titles. A title is step one to draw audiences. And the trick is to move offbeat,” he says.

Bebo postpones trip for KJo
Kareena Kapoor and Karan Johar have always been great pals. So when KJo’s 40th birthday came up, Bebo postponed her trip to Turkey to wait the massive bash. “Yes, Bebo was imagined to fly to Turkey an afternoon before the bash. But since she was very keen to wait his party, she postponed the trip,” says an insider close
to Bebo.

Sixties star Saira Banu inspires Priyanka!

By Hindustan Times

Playing an elaborate character at the big screen is something. But essaying three different roles that span across three different eras in a single film, is a another ball game altogether.

That’s what actor Priyanka Chopra realised when she got an opportunity to play the characters of Aradhna, Ruksar and Radha, all of whom belong to different periods in time, in her upcoming film Teri Meri Kahaani (TMK).

To ensure that she does justice to at least one of the characters, Ruksar, who's a 1960s heroine, Priyanka turned to none rather than yesteryear icon Saira Banu for inspiration. She spoke to the veteran actor to be told about actors in that era and their lives off and on camera.

“Saira Banu ma’am is a quintessential beauty who has a grace that takes your breath away each time you spot her. After I was discussing the nature of Ruksar with Kunal (Kohli, director), I felt that I WANTED to get an insight into the lifetime of a movie star from those days.” And Saira Banu was the primary individual that came to her mind.

“When I called her, she was very hot and helpful. Our chat really helped me stitch together the nature of Ruksar. I'M grateful to her for that. And that i can’t look forward to her to peer the film and provides me feedback at the role. Saira Ma’am was my inspiration for this character,” says Priyanka.

Apparently, her conversation with Banu helped her discover trivia similar to the original make-up techniques followed by the actors from that decade, their favourite shopping haunts, and their intricate hairdos, among other things. Director Kunal adds, “People remake films but we remade a whole era while shooting TMK.

We desired to find out about the lives of stars from that period. We all know how they behaved on camera as we will see their movies, but their off-camera behaviour is what Priyanka desired to understand.”

Kohli says he was impressed with Priyanka’s dedication to building her on-screen character. “Priyanka did an excellent job of recreating the aura of a ’60s star within the film,” he says.

The primary opens this Friday, the following three follow in quick succession, and Lootera releases next March.

“I didn’t plan it, but it’s fantastic how things have fallen into place. I DO KNOW they all won't hit bull’s eye, but what’s important is that I’m enjoying my work, even if I’ve been shooting on a daily basis. I’ve just begged for an afternoon off on my birthday, June 2,” she says.

Diwali has always been a low-key affair for the Sinhas, comprising a puja and many family time. And xmas too is not any big affair. “The only difference is that earlier my parents would give me gifts, this time I’ll gift them my movies,” she says, smiling, “Dad (Shatrughan Sinha) is looking ahead to the premieres and expecting more compliments for my performances from the stewards and air-hostesses he meets on flights.”

Romancing Ranveer? No, no!
Most of 24-year-old Sonakshi Sinha’s co-stars are 40-plus, but she’s unperturbed. “Judwaa 2 is my first film with Saif (Ali Khan), Dabangg 2 my second with Salman and Once Upon A Time Again, my third with Akshay (Kumar). None of them behave like my seniors. It’s Ranveer (Singh), who’s toward my age. And that i didn’t know him before starting Lootera,” she says, dismissing rumours of a romance that recently upset her ma and pa. “My parents don’t need to examine my relationships within the papers.”
