Get to understand Mandela at this virtual museum!

Mumbai, March 30 -- His story is one who inspires, and can continue to take action for generations and ages. And now, the life and times of 1 of the world's greatest statesmen has been documented online for eternity.

On Thursday, Google Cultural Institute announced the launch of the Nelson Mandela Digital Archive, which essentially is an internet selection of digitised photos, videos and documents centering across the former South African president. At this virtual museum of sorts, visitors can now look through Mandela's unseen diaries, works, letters to friends and family, diary entries made during his 27 years of imprisonment and notes he made while leading the negotiations that ended apartheid in South Africa.

Based out of the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory in Johannesburg, South Africa, the virtual museum was developed with the assistance of $1.25 million in funding provided by the software giant.

"We've worked closely with the NMCM to create an interactive online experience which we are hoping will inspire you up to us. You'll search and skim the archives to explore different parts of Mandela's life and work intensive -Early Life, Prison Years, Presidential Years, Retirement, Books for Mandela Youth and My Moments with a Legend," posted Mark Yoshitake, product manager, Google's Cultural Institute on Google's official blog.

The Nelson Mandela Digital Archive project aims to assist preserve and promote the world's diverse cultural and historical heritage. The multimedia archive is on the market to view now.
