After Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn's the following Rs. 100-crore actor

By Hindustan Times

Salman Khan’s last five releases — Wanted (2009), Dabangg (2010), Bodyguard (2011), Ready (2011) and Ek Tha Tiger — have all crossed the Rs. 100 cr mark on the box-office, making him the champion of the much-coveted club. But steady competition is coming his way. Closing in on Salman is now Ajay Devgn.

Ajay’s last four films — Golmaal 3 (2010), Singham (2011), Bol Bachchan and the recently-released Son Of Sardaar (SOS) — have all surpassed the Rs100 cr mark on the box-office to boot. If trade and industry sources are to be believed, Ajay is fast becoming probably the most sought-after actor in Bollywood.

An informer says, “The film may be doing well in regions the makers didn’t expect it to accomplish in. Late director Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan had released in 500 screens greater than what SOS launched with initially. This is the reason it took the film a while to hit the mark, otherwise going by the present response, it might have happened much earlier. He's an unexpected entrant into the Rs. 100 cr club.”

Having released this Diwali, there has been numerous buzz about how SOS would fare because it was up against the Shah Rukh Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer. But interestingly, it went ahead and hit the R100 cr mark on the box-office faster than every other film starring Ajay has, within the past.

Producer of SOS, NR Pachisia says, “In a 16-day period, SOS has also crossed the lifetime regional collections of all of Ajay’s films. This provides us an entire new reason to celebrate. We’re pleased with the response.”
