Emraan’s parents catch his first ‘family’ film

By Hindustan Times

For the primary time in his career, serial kisser Emraan Hashmi sent his parents for a screening of his film at a neighborhood theatre.

The movie is Shanghai, which hit theatres on Friday, and is, in keeping with the actor, a “family film”. “They came back proud and happy,” reveals Emraan, adding that he's shocked at hearing great things about his performance from critics. “Ever since my career started, it is a one-off experience. I'M HOPING it continues.”

I must jump off the brink to fly
Known for on-screen lip-locks and starring in sensual films produced by the Bhatt camp, Emraan Hashmi seems to have broadened his horizons along with his latest release, Shanghai, during which he doesn’t have any intimate scenes.

Ask him if itwas a conscious choice on his part to wreck his kisser-boy image, and he says, “I am uninterested in this tag. While the audience loves typical formulaic films with a generous dose of songs, sex and romance, they have got accepted me in an unsightly Jogi Parmar role in Shanghai besides. It gives me a refreshing break and satisfaction. I knew it was risky, to sign a movie like Shanghai, that is different from the entire roles I’ve done before, but I needed to jump off the brink to grasp if I WILL BE ABLE TO fly on this direction too,” he adds.

Emraan may be seen next in Raaz 3, during which he’ll play a job that corresponds to his earlier brand of cinema. After this film, he's going to start shooting for Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj’s co-production Ek Thi Dayan, from June 13 onwards.

“I play a magician on this film, a mixture of India’s famous P.C. Sorcar and international magician David Blaine. Because the film has a large number of wizardry, witchcraft and magic, it is going to be very different from anything I'VE done so far,” he says.

The actor may also be seen in a comedy by Rajkumar Gupta called Ghanchakkar, opposite Vidya Balan.
