Hope Shanghai forces people to invite fundamental questions: Abhay

By Hindustan Times

Actor Abhay Deol, who plays an IAS officer in Dibakar Banerjee's forthcoming political-thriller Shanghai, hopes that the film has an impact on viewers and impels them into raising their voice. "What I HOPE is that it's going to lead people to begin asking questions on things they do not ask
about. We're just occurring with life accepting it as it's coming to us," the 36-year-old said in an interview here Wednesday. "The film, I'M hoping, people will watch and say - 'Oh, I DID NOT consider that, it's been behind my mind and that i can see it but I DID NOT question it because that thing is just too big.' Would be the film will cause them to ask some very fundamental questions," he added.

Meanwhile, Banerjee clarifies that a film cannot provide a readymade solution. "A MOVIE cannot provide any solution. A poem, an essay or a narrative can only force you to think. There's no solution in these items. It'd be foolish to mention that I'VE a prescribed medicine, as a way to solve all problems," he said. "FIND IT IRRESISTIBLE happens with Abhay's character who thinks about something that occurs with him and takes a step about it, all of us wish to take our own steps," he added. Shanghai is releasing Friday with a U/A certificate.
