I never got down to impersonate Milkha: Farhan Akhtar

By Hindustan Times

Farhan Akhtar has always put a large number of thought into the jobs he plays, but Bhag Milkha Bhag (BMB), a movie during which his character relies on an actual person, has taken a toll on him.“Shooting for BMB was very taxing, emotionally,” says the actor-director who plays Milkha Singh, one among India’s
greatest athletes, within the biopic. “Even the entire physical changes I needed to undergo for the role were so different from the rest I’ve done to this point. Understanding Milkha Singh, the person who he is, is huge.”

Sixty per cent of the film was shot thus far. Akhtar, who's now in Singapore where he'll co-host the IIFA Awards and probably)( watch his own last film as an actor, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) pick up accolades, cannot sum up his BMB experiences in a couple of sentences. Engaged on his part, Akhtar not just hung out with the person he plays within the film, but additionally made it some degree to be informed about him from his contemporaries. With such a lot background information, playing Milkha then became easier, he says.“Most importantly, I never got down to impersonate him,” says Akhtar. “I desired to understand each event within the film. What he felt at that point, how his mind functioned — every minute detail mattered. He has undergone so much, he has seen so much, that it’s impossible to get into every aspect of his life.” He adds: “I desired to know what mattered to him probably the most. What his journey was — was it easy? Was it just triumph? As an actor, if you find yourself entering the psyche of a person, all of this must come to you naturally.”

But the film is greater than just the biography of the man, however great he's and Akhtar makes that very clear. “There’s a bigger picture to this film, there’s such crucial message in it about an implausible person, that everything I’ve passed through as an actor to make it work, seems fine,” he says. “In retrospect, all of it seems inconsequential. And that’s also what’s exciting about BMB.”
