Kalki-Anurag part ways!

By Hindustan Times

Kalki Koechlin doesn't star in hubby Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur. Yet, she was bombarded with questions on the film. In fact, in keeping with the repeated queries about her absence from the film, she was quoted saying, “I don’t appear to be a Bihari gaon ki ladki (village
girl) from any angle. That’s simply why.”

The latest turn of events, Anurag reveals, is that Kalki has decided to not work with him any longer. “Everyone, including the media, has questioned her such a lot (about her professional association with Anurag) that usne decide kar liya hai woh kuch karegi hi nahi mere saath (she has decided to not work with me anymore). Now, Kalki intends to do everything on her own,” says Anurag.

Anurag had directed Kalki in Dev.D (2009) and That Girl In Yellow Boots (2010). He also produced Shaitan (2011), by which Kalki played a rich brat.

He says: “Everyone feels that Kalki is getting these roles as a result of me. When someone is operating hard and those do away with their credit, obviously, they’ll feel bad.”

The filmmaker clarifies that Kalki “never gets a role” similar to that. “She auditions for all her roles, including smaller ones. Even for (Dibakar Banerjee’s) Shanghai, she auditioned extensively. She even auditions for ads.”

A few years ago, Anurag had produced Kalki’s debut play as a writer and co-director, Skeleton Woman. This time, though the actor has finished work on her next untitled project, a depressing comedy on death, she hasn’t asked her hubby for any help.

“She just wants me to move and watch it,” says Anurag, who has just returned from a “superb” trip to the Cannes Film Festival. “I managed to sell the film (Gangs of Wasseypur) there. Now, it is going to release in non-diaspora markets too. It’s an enormous achievement that our film is getting a mainstream release (within the European market),” says the filmmaker.
