Karan Johar to co-produce Southern version of Agneepath

By Hindustan Times

In January this year, Agneepath’s popular remake created new trade records by garnering the top first-day collections in Bollywood history: Rs. 24.4 crore to Rs. 26 crore. In February, Karan Johar confirmed that producers from the South had approached him for the rights of the film, for a
remake.

Now the inside track is that, in place of turning in the movie rights, the 40-year-old producer-director plans to co-produce the movie with a top producer from the South.

“Even six months after Agneepath’s release, my office continues to get enquiries from many producers from the South. I’m really humbled by their gesture, but for me, this film is very special,” says Karan, adding, “With its remake, I needed to make my father (Yash Johar) proud, for the reason that subject was as regards to his heart”.

The filmmaker admits that he hasn’t selected his co-producer yet. “It can’t be just anyone. I NEED TO trust the production company to do justice to the topic. When finalised, I’ll make a press release because it can be Dharma Productions’ first move down south,” says Karan, adding, “It will feature the best actors from the South who will fit the jobs of Vijay Chauhan, Kancha and Kaali.”
