Rakhi Sawant's Dirty Picture gets legal notice!

By Hindustan Times

A few weeks ago, Rakhi Sawant made headlines by claiming to HT Café that she is going to “do better and warmer scenes within the Bengali remake” of Vidya Balan’s The Dirty Picture (2011). But Rakhi’s dream seems to have gone bust.

Balaji Films has sent a legal notice to producer-director Shatabdi Roy, who's also a Member of Parliament, concerning the purported film. However, Shatabdi replied that she isn’t making this sort of film. Tanuj Garg, CEO of Balaji Films confirms, “Yes, a notice was sent to the producer based on which she denied proposing a remake of The Dirty Picture in Bengali.”

Ekta Kapoor is obviously unhappy with the debate a couple of remake of The Dirty Picture doing the rounds. “Things like copyright and ownership was installed practice for a reason. Lifting (story) ideas could be very intangible but it’s as heinous as anything else,” she says.

What’s interesting to notice is that the brand new film’s lead actor, Rakhi Sawant, is maintaining her old stance. “I am leaving for Kolkata this week for the primary shoot of the film. I can’t disclose the dates of the shooting. In fact, I met Vidya (Balan) recently on the Delhi airport. We were going to Mumbai at the same flight. She was seated next to me and wished me luck for the remake. She also advised me on tips on how to go about my role. We had an in depth chat for approximately an hour at the film,” she says.

But Shatabdi Roy, the director-producer of the rumoured Bengali ‘remake’ insists that her film will not be in response to the 2011 blockbuster. “Let me clarify: my film isn't a remake of TDP. In Bengal, this sort of subject or treatment (of a feminine actor) won’t be accepted. The topic could be similar in its appeal considering my film may be going to be concerning the lifetime of an actor who does item numbers, but mine goes to be different. If I ever need to do a remake, I CAN do it in a correct way,” says Roy.
