Sonakshi turns to mum Poonam for film advice

By Hindustan Times

Mumbai, June 5 -- From a police officer's wife in Dabangg (2010), Sonakshi Sinha will now play a gangster's moll in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2. And because the mafia flick is about within the '80s, Sonakshi plans to observe "a lot of" films from that period in order that she gets her role right.

"As a part of my homework, I NEED TO watch numerous movies from that era to know the fashion, behaviour and other nuances," says Sonakshi, who starts shooting for the film in a couple of months.

For the uninitiated, the sequel's story is about within the '80s, when the Mumbai underworld was desirous about Bollywood, especially the ladies. It was not uncommon at the moment for starlets to be romantically associated with gangsters. Rumour has it that Sonakshi's character relies on Dawood Ibrahim's one-time lover, yesteryear actor Mandakini.

Although the Rowdy Rathore leading lady refuses to simply accept that her role was inspired by a real-life actor, she does plan to hunt advice from someone in her own life her mother Poonam Sinha. "My mother is often there for me with inputs and proposals. But I THINK that i'm in good hands with (director) Milan Luthria. If nothing else, I'M sure it is going to be an enormous learning experience for me," she says.

While Akshay Kumar is signed directly to play the role supposedly inspired by Ibrahim, actor Imran Khan will star as a rival don within the Ekta Kapoor production.
