100 crore club is simply a fad: Shahid Kapoor

Earning 100 crores on the box office has become a brand new benchmark for a movie to be declared successful in Bollywood, but actor Shahid Kapoor says it's only a trend and flicks shouldn't be judged solely in keeping with this. "The 100 crore club is solely a fad that is within the industry for the past three years. The movies which come under this category are of a definite genre and are done by those actors who've been within the industry for the last TWENTY YEARS. It takes a certain quantity of time to succeed in the heartland of our country," said Shahid.

Films like Dabangg, Bodyguard and The Dirty Picture have grossed greater than 100 crores, which has become a milestone now for other films to cross.

"They are all massy films which can be very basic of their understanding and high on entertainment. But when we run only to succeed in those figures then we will be able to restrict ourselves as actors.

"I feel that this couldn't be the only agenda of creating films. The speculation is to find ourselves in various spaces," Shahid said throughout the promotion of his new film Teri Meri Kahaani here.

The 31-year-old actor, whose last outing Mausam didn't do well on the box-office, will next be seen within the Kunal Kohli-directed film opposite Priyanka Chopra.

Shahid, who could be seen essaying three different characters from 1910, 1960 and 2012, says he loved portraying poet Javed from the sooner a part of the 20 th century.

"I have never played a personality like Javed earlier. He's somewhat of Casanova. Whenever he sees a woman he starts flirting along with her. He does shayari the entire day to provoke girls. Shayaris are his pickup lines. He's not an advanced poet. The nature may be very different from what I'M in real life," he said.
