After launching an India-inspired collection last year, French fashion house, Chanel will introduce a limited edition desi makeup range, this month.
Called Bombay Express Summer 2012, the gathering could have a variety of beauty products including a gold nail paint titled Diwali, which the
brand’s creative director of makeup, Peter Philips, described as “a homage to the celebration of sunshine that happens in India.” The variety can even have a shimmery graphite black eyeshadow called Nirvana.
Fashion designers back home welcome the speculation. Designer Gaurav Gupta says international brands are inspired by an concept of ‘opulent’ India. “Foreign designers was inspired by our country for ages. References return to colonial India — from maharajas to their luxurious lifestyle,” says Gupta.
Designer Kanika Saluja agrees, “This will cater to the growing Indian clientele for foreign brands. It’s a smart, sales-driven move.”
