UTV Movies is about to remake superhit film Delhi Belly (2011) in Tamil. Jointly produced by UTV and Aamir Khan Productions, the adult comedy directed by Abhinay Deo was made in English and dubbed in Hindi. South director R Kannan will make the Tamil version.

In the untitled Tamil version, Arya will play Imran Khan’s role while Santhanam will reprise Kunaal Roy Kapur’s character and popular actor Premgi will essay Vir Das’s role. Hansika and Anjali was roped in to play the airhostess and journalist respectively.

“The film could have several known stars in other pivotal roles,” says an insider related to the film. South writer John Mahendran is writing the dialogues for the Tamil version and a team of 3 writers is developing the screenplay while retaining the film’s original theme.

Confirming the development, Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO of UTV Motion Pictures, says, “Delhi Belly will work well with Tamil audiences and we're thrilled with the outstanding screenplay that the team of young writers has developed. We now have taken on actors who're youthful and popular, at the side of an excessively skilled director and are confident that the content of Delhi Belly will act as a bridge for cinema-loving audiences across languages.” S Thaman will compose the film’s music.

In the past, UTV has successfully remade Hindi productions Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006) in Tamil and A Wednesday (2008) in Tamil and Telegu. Rowdy Rathore, their Akshay Kumar starrer, is a remake of Telugu film Vikramarkudu (2006), which was also remade in Tamil as Siruthai (2011).
