When Kajol said ‘no’ to Ajay

By Hindustan Times

Their last on-screen pairing was in 2010, with Toonpur Ka Super Hero. Nevertheless it seems, director Ashwini Dhir was concerned about getting Kajol and husband Ajay Devgn together again for his film, Son Of Sardaar. Kajol, however, turned down the offer, and recommended Sonakshi Sinha instead. “Ashwini had sketched the nature keeping Kajol in mind, as he thought that she would best fit the role opposite Ajay,” says a source.

It seems that Ashwini had pitched the script to Kajol and tried his best to convince her. “He narrated the tale to Kajol and was very insistent about having her on board,” says the source.

He was disappointed, however, when Kajol turned down the project, citing domestic priorities. “Kajol declined the project saying she had responsibilities towards her home and kids. She said she didn’t wish to take the film at this point of time, says the source.”

However, it wasn’t all bad news for Ashwini. “It was Kajol who suggested Sonakshi’s name for the lead. Ashwini agreed along with her and felt that that Sonakshi can be an acceptable replacement,” adds the source.

When contacted, Ashwini refused to comment.

Trailers for the action-comedy are already doing the rounds. The film is ready to release on November 13.
