Asin takes dig at fellow 'members of the 100 crore club'

By Hindustan Times

She entered Bollywood with Ghajini (2008), which kicked off the concept that of Rs100 crore club. Then Asin went directly to work in back-to-back blockbusters Ready (2011), Housefull 2 (2012) and Bol Bachchan (2012), which all crossed the much-coveted mark.

But unlike several of her contemporary leading ladies, Asin says she hasn't ever tried to extract any publicity out of it. “I’ve been part of only a few films, but they've all been blockbusters,” says Asin.

What does she recall to mind other actresses minting it for publicity?
“The Rs. 100 crore club talk started with my first film, Ghajini. The entire idea of this benchmark kicked off then. I THINK like I’m the founding member of the Rs. 100 crore club, so far as female actors are concerned!” she laughs, adding, “And I'VE constantly renewed my membership within the club with most of my releases.”

Others female results in has been a part of Rs. 100 crore grossing movies are Kareena Kapoor (3 Idiots, 2009), Priyanka Chopra (Don 2, 2011), Sonakshi Sinha (Dabangg, 2010) and Katrina Kaif (Ek Tha Tiger).

Ask the southern star why she hasn’t publicised this fact, and he or she says, “I can’t exit and blow my very own trumpet. It’s not in my nature. As an actor, it’s not my job to be bothered about numbers. We must always be bothered concerning the artistic side of filmmaking and leave figures to producers and directors.”

Asin is currently busy with the Akshay Kumar-starrer Khiladi 786. Ask why she only picks comedies, and he or she says, “It’s only a coincidence that Ready (2011), Bol Bachchan and Housefull 2 were offered to me back-to-back. It wasn’t a conscious decision to do only comedies. But I MIGHT like to try other genres too,” says the actor.
